redoing nextel ad's

hi all...this is for a class project where the objective was to rebrand a tired company/logo. we chose nextel for our example, and i came out with the following layouts. one is an 8.5 x 11 magazine ad, the other is a billboard ad. any comments are appreciated, thanks for your time and insight.

I like the new logo. The logo device represents transmission of signals. I would prefer the top and bottom of the lines to be straight and not on an angle. I'm not sure about the magazine ad. What does it say? The city communicates with a phone? The billboard is better. Sort of saying that the service bridges together the two shores of a river. I don't like the tagline Keep connected. I think it's wrong English and it's very generic. You need to find something that moves my imagination. Something like Volvo's For life, Or Nike's Just do it.

what i was shooting for with the mag ad is that the cellphone/individual can connect to big business/the city using nextel. i basically want to use the logo as an equals sign ( = ) in that so n so can connect with so n so and nextel is the solution for this. thanks for the thought.

im not sure how the logo works when rotated 90.

for the 2nd billboard, i think the car should enter the picture and not leave it.
i know it might seem like a splitting a hair into 4 pieces, but having the car entering the billboard gives you a start, a potential, as opposite to ending the story.

i agree with ivan, the 2nd billboard is the best.
but regarding the logo, im not sure it looks as a single entity.
the two pieces (type + logo) look ok, but the sum does not.

i placed the car leaving so that it trys to get across the idea that...with nextel, the bridge is now connected, and is the solution for the car to get across. thanks.

Following up on Ivan´s comment about the tag line, maybe something like "Connection simplified" or "Direct connection" would work better. Just throwing some ideas around...
Also, I Iike the color palette. However yellow and black remind me of the Johnny Walker ads, or did I get those wrong? Anyways, the simplified look also reminds me of that as well.
I agree with the rest in regards to the billbord being better. However, I think you´re on the right track. Good work!

When Sprint bought Nextel they did a wonderful job rebranding them. They picked up on the yellow/black theme, and the revised Sprint logo resembles yours a bit.

i like the work, and bravo for following the current nextel format for color, layout, simplicity and topic incinuation. However, the signals used is too close to another provider (cingular). Its also used in communication companies represented by verizon and sprint. (so i dont think sprint would approve something like this since its too close and nextel is a brand now managed by sprint anyhow)...

love the building landscape idea. Keep going with that. Remember, nextel is dead beacsue they are being outcalled, no pun intended. Bleep to bleep patents and contracts are done for, a bigger companies ar elooking to outperform the nextel brand with new brands using the same, if not better technology.

shawn hit it on the head basically.....nextel doesnt need a new mark. It has sprint now. ;)

hope you get an A! -- mike
