Residential Building Company Logo (rev. 5) - Keeping It Simple!
TMess (54 pencils) | Wed, 2011-02-09 17:22Having taken one more attempt at this design, I'm actually rather happy with the result. Nethertheless, I thought I'd still post the design here for your critique.
Having experimented with the idea of multi-colour, I must agree that made the design far too funky and complicated. Hence, I started from scratch but based my line of thought on the previous concept.
I got rid of the upper/lower bleed on the blocks which created a serious flaw with the icon when on it's own. I turned the icon into a symmetrical square, thus enlarging the left side of the negative-"E". In terms of the typography, I reduced the size of the type and made both words of equal weight, but increased the kerning between them. Finally, colour-wise, I've rolled with 100% black and will use the colour combination I worked on yesterday morning as a background wrap on vehicles and signboards.
Opinions?

Much better. But I still don't understand the use of the rainbow.

The only reason for the kaleidescope of colours is due to it being eye-catching when wrapped around a van amidst other traffic. The logo would sit ontop of these stripes. Otherwise the large black logo would not stand out sufficiently on a plain white van. The design of this will be another project when I may tweak the colours and align them on the vehicles.
However, in a nutshell, the largest colours are blue and red to signify stability and power respectively, whereas the remainder of the colours are there to signify that the business can appeal to everyones needs. The 4 black stripes separate the groups of colours and also follow the black trend of the logo.
I'd rather not focus too much on the colours atm, more interested in critique of the logo :).
Do you have any comments on the type size, alignment, kerning and/or tracking?
It just seems to me like it's kinda like trying to promote a store, how you gonna do that? Let's stick a bunch of fireworks around it and light them up. Unless the colours mean anything, cut down the number you'll use. No one can take a business seriously, imo, if they drive around in what looks like a clown car. You've justified blue and red, but I'm counting 7 other colours you're using just to show you that it can appeal to everyone. That can easily be cut down to 2 or 3, plus the blue and red.
In regards to the logo, I personally wouldn't touch it anymore. Other concepts would have been nice to see, but you seem stuck on this one so ship it out and move on. Anymore work on it and it can only get worse, it seems you've hit a sweet spot in the process right now.

The icon works better than the others. Still don't get the colors and don't think the icon will stand out very well with all those thick black lines in the rainbow either.
So far as the top thing - I'd rather have your other type treatment. All caps is never a good idea imho and I don't see any advantage to having the rectangular enclosure.
Please I'm not making comparisons I know your idea has a concept of wall tiles. I'm only a idiot that like to find similar logos everywhere.
If you can't find at Brands of the World you can ask me xD

Haha! That was one of my first options as well! I didn't like it as it reminds me of a 'Finish' flag...
The vehicle wrap seems a touch out of character with the other two, but I like the icon especially.
is this builder also a pianist? I don't get it.

Zing!

That was actually my first thought, this would be a great logo for a music company or anything to do with pianos. I thought it was great and was a little let down when I realized it had nothing to do with that.
