Retrofest poster
cissabrandao (154 pencils) | Tue, 2008-03-18 02:38Retrofest will happen for the second time this year in Scotland.
It is a reunion of many 80's bands.
I tried to design the poster using a tetris theme and neon-like colors

I love that you used the Tetris theme. Looks really cool and very 80s. I should know, I am from the 80s. But it's still a little beyond the 80s, as maybe Space Invaders would have been more appropriate. We didn't get the personal computer until the 90s.
Regardless, I love its look and feel. The colors are perfect!
Wish I could go to this concert. Talk about blast from the past!!!

the first "mac" came out in 1984. i used an apple IIe in 1984, an apple IIc in 87, and my first IBM PC in 1988.
At least I don't remember this sort of thing in the 80s, however I graduated in 1983, so maybe that was a bit early??
That Mac that came out in 1984 didn't have a color monitor I believe. Or I could be wrong.
Senility may be setting in early. =P

Thank you Cissa for sharing these great projects with us! I was starting to lose hope in CB...I'm loving this retro poster. That piece coming down right into its spot is a great touch I find.

I went to a Mac (an Apple IIe, actually) in 1984 and was one of the first kids on my block to go for the mega-wildman IIcx in 89 or 90. It had 5 Megs of RAM, which was considered overkill, and Photoshop was still a gleam in somebody's eye -- I had to use Digital Darkroom (grayscale-only !) for photo manips. Gaaa.
I remember first seeing Tetris in full-color format in 91 or so. Maybe it had been out for a while, but I really don't associate it much with the 80s at all. I don't know if that matters too much. It's really a fun design.
I like what you've done with the overall look. What do you think about doing the large "retrofest" in just a plain solid white? I think the block style might be too hard to read. Also, could you find a way to track "Bananarama" a little more loosely? You'd have to sacrifice a square somewhere. It's really tight, and not in the good way; I mean hard to read.
I love the way you did the 2008! :-)

Thank you guys for giving me feedback.
This were some projects that I worked on for the quarter that is about to finish at The Creative Circus, in Atlanta. I have to present them in a panel on Wednesday.
I am new to CB and I think it will be great to be a part of this community.
I will definitely return the favor and give feedback to other people.
Cheers!

When I picked Tetris for the theme, I was mostly thinking of the sounds.
I wanted to do something that would remind people of the synthesizer.
Bananarama can definitely be kerned better. Thank you!
I also agree that by having Retrofest in solid color the readability would be increased.
Thank you so much.

This poster is smashingly great. I only wish the band names were a little larger?
