looks like a spoof or something. grosss, the typography at the end is horrible. funny though. is that dean cane?
OMG I hope this is a real ad -- hilarious!
Directed by Bobcat Goldthwait and featuring Dean Cain, these online videos are part of a larger integrated marketing campaign created by Indianapolis-based advertising agency, Bradley and Montgomery.
... they are really getting brave in their ads. Guess they finally realize they can't just sit back and rely on their monopoly to always be there and rake in the money for them.
I still don't like their stupid "I'm a PC" commercials though. :P
Ok. This is an interesting concept for IE with a last-on-the-block benefit. So the acting is REAL BAD. And the puke is unconvincing. It has about 15 minutes of notoriety for this ad. Whereas the Apple spots are witty and in your face, this IE spot is just in your face and kinda sleazy. Who's their market anyway? Porn surfers? What a great concept.
As for the type, ya got a great big IE logo with some real anonymous type and a funny graphic on he left side all the way down.
This has all the edginess of bank commercial.
I think that spot was classless.

good idea to represent

This ad did actually make me chuckle and that's definitely a first for a MS ad.
However, as a whole it's fragmented. 'Browse Better' just doesn't tie in with the concept of hiding your browsing history, maybe if they'd used 'Safer Browsing' or similar but I'm not convinced. It's okay going for shock tactics based upon a solid concept but on an inkling of a weak idea and being very poorly executed... no.

I would have worked with the same base concept, but developed it a little differently. There wouldn't have been puke in mine.

...they feel that puking is cool. Trendy. I disagree.

i don't think it's as horrible as some make it out to be here. i chuckled a few times. ("puke? really?"). but let's face it, there's a market for this humor. just because some don't like it doesn't mean that others won't. and it's not like they bought air time for this and put it on TV, it was viral.
There is NO video!

I am not Steve Ballmer pretending not to be me!
MS pulled it, but I got it back through AotW.
If you enjoyed this video, there was a contest held for filmmakers to create their own Internet Explorer 8 PSA-like ads to submit for a chance to have their entry run in August. The results can be found at http://www.brickfish.com/Lifestyles/WindowsInternetExplorer8?tab=entries
Some of 'em are pretty funny.
