Flipboard for iPad is the ultimate social media reader
Ivan | Wed, 2010-07-21 11:10The newly released free Flipboard app for iPad brings back the magazine style reading to social media. If you enjoy the layout of shiny periodicals but prefer to read what your friends are talking about then Flipboard is for you.
Here is a video and a few screenshoots to show you how it all looks like.

Home screen with default channels. Notice, I have not yet set-up my Facebook and Twitter accounts.

Facebook and Twitter accounts added.

This is how status messages look like from Facebook. Allows you to browse and read them easier than ever.

When you tap on a single status update it will be brought to focus. You can Like and comment.

Flip a page and all the videos posted by your friends are collected on one page. Plays perfectly on the iPad.

This my Twitter page. Amazing how those 140 character messages can look like if they are expanded into journal layout.

Another page from my Twitter channel.

Fliptech, a built in tech magazine aggregated from various tech websites.

Individual blog post within Fliptech.
You can add more sections by selecting from a large list of predefined channels or simply selecting a twitter list or individual twitter user. This feature was little buggy at this time, I hope it gets fixed soon.
My only annoyance is that you never know how much of your social media messages have you read, it feels as if Flipboard gives a selection but not absolutely everything. Perhaps this is a good thing for many of us with many friends and too little time.
Overall using Flipboard is a really pleasant experience. Will have to see if I will keep using it.

Looks good. This may finally get me into social media. Not that I'm not on nearly every blog that you don't have to register (and some that you do) already...
