Run CS4 GPU accelerated features on G5 with unsupported graphics card

I have a G5 2.5 DP with an ATI Radeon 9600XT. When I installed Photoshop CS4 I found out that the graphics card didn't support the new GPU accelerated features. I was looking around on the web for upgrades or other solutions and came across a post on the Open Photography Forums from Peter Brentlinger which provided a link to this plug-in from Adobe, which on my system has activated the GPU features. YMMV.

I am thinking of getting a Radeon 9600 pc/mac 256MB card for my G5. Do you think that plugin will activate gpu acceleration on that as well? Also, do you notice the acceleration on your end?

The plugin should support the 9600, it works with the 9600XT, although I have noticed that Photoshop crashes on quit, though I am not sure if this is conected.
