Safe sex campaign #3
Manny Cruz (47 pencils) | Sun, 2006-03-26 21:15I'm just and ordinary guy with no experience whatsoever in design or copywriting. I don't own a Mac nor do I have any experience in the use of ANY design programs. I don't consider myself a designer or a copywriter by any means. I just seem to have an innate passion for coming up with ad ideas which I personally feel have potential, but would like to receive the candid opinion of all of you who are well-seasoned in the areas of design and copywriting. I would very much like to pursue my passion further by learning some design programs and perhaps buying a Mac, but would first like to know from all of you who have taken the moment to look at my work whether or not you feel that I may have some potential for this work.

I get that they're a couple condoms, but why are there two. Why are they places where they are. It seems random. It's an ok concept, I suppose. It just doesn't seem to communicate anything other than what the words are saying.
You're actually right now that I look at the ad again. About the randomness of the placement of the condoms. What was I thinking? I have no idea. I think I was just a bit too eager to just get the concept out there and thats not a good thing. As for the reason why there are two condoms...I don't have much of a personal stock photo collection if any at all and it seemed that at the time I was browsing stock photo websites that image of the two condoms was the best resolution photo I could locate. More often than not I have the most difficult time trying to locate images that mirror those that I visualize in my head. Its a bit daunting at times and I usually have to end up using whatever it is I can get. All in all, your critique taught me a valuble lesson which is not to be so eager to get a concept out there at the risk of having that concept overshadowed by lack of creativeness that will certainly prevail. Thanks much John

don't know if you've tried, but www.sxc.hu is a totally free stock photo site. Also, try istockphoto.com. You can get images for usually 1-3 dollars.
The copy spoonfeeds the reader. The visual isn't interesting. There is a concept, but there must be a way to present it in a more interesting way. The initiative is good. Don't give up!
