School community website
I'm designing a school-oriented community website which includes all kinds of information like courses, assignments, news, related media, forums, etc. The design attached is the "copywriting"-page which is just an example of a course with all its information. Obviously I'll need to design a lot of variations for different pages but for now I want to focus on this one.
I'm happy with the header, navigation, etc. However, the bottom "boxes" don't feel right. First of all, all information below the Lorem Ipsum text should have the same visual weight. Second, it needs to be the same style but still fit the current information.
The colorful image at the bottom will be replaced with a relevant inspiring photo or illustration. I know the current one looks bad :).
I was hoping you guys and gals could give me some feedback on improving this design.

Clean design
I like cleany-nish of the design, a bit minimalistic (which I like) and very obvious and clear.
Personaly I think the orange borders at the bottom items are making it a bit to heavy, maybe give them a very soft grayish background (with our without a web2.0 degrade)
I was also thinking that for now there aren't any visual indications that is designed to be a school community. So if you're thinkg about adding some visuals to the boxes bellow, maybe consider picking some school related ones.
In ieder geval, ziet er goed uit en veel succes ermee :)
No degrades!
I love this design and I think it works as is. I am very pleased with the fact that you use only flat color and no gradients. Everybody is still under the "web 2.0 look" but it will get old very soon. The flat style will last longer. I love the colors, layout and type.
those gradients
were more meant as a joke actually. ;)
awesome, clean, modern and
awesome, clean, modern and legible, it all works for me. good job!
Thanks for the feedback
Thanks for the feedback people!
@cubus
I'll have to agree with you, the orange borders look weird. Also, I think I should use orange for active objects (like the selected news article) only to avoid confusion. I've tried a gray border but it looks a bit dull. I'll try adding some visual cues which I think is great idea! It will probably make everything a bit more interesting to look at.
@mokenke
I agree with the web2.0-hype. Although I like the clean layouts web2.0-sites tend to use the color schemes and gradients get old quickly. I tried designing with typography instead of added shapes and colors since the website will include a lot of (text based) content.
@julianaduque
Thanks for the kind words, I really appreciate it!
The target group is students learning everything about interaction, design and technology so they will be pretty critical I think. Therefor any additional feedback is greatly appreciated. Even small things like a 11pt instead of a 12pt font are welcome feedback.
