Scrolling in Illustrator

The fact that I can not scroll through layers and other palettes in Illustrator is making me crazy! At first, I thought it was a quirk with my CS3, because InDesign and Photoshop both allow me to to scroll through palettes, but it's like that at school and at work, so I'm guessing that's just how Illustrator rolls?
Does this bother anybody else? Is there anything I can do to change it?
WHY, Adobe, WHY?
done ranting for the night...
What exactly do you mean?
Do you mean you can't have more than two palettes open simultaneously? If so, that also bugs me, and I'm sure there's a fix to it, but I can't figure it out. Or do you mean where you just use the scroll button and it allows you to easily scroll from one palette to the other?
I guess in that respect, I have never used that function, therefore it doesn't bother me.
Sorry I couldn't be of more assistance. However, I'm sure somebody in here will know the answer.

Makes me crazy too
@onegirlcreative - She's refering to using the scroll wheel to navigate a long list in the layers pallet. You have to either drag the window bar or click the arrows... or use the arrow key... A real pain when you have a ton of layers to poke through. This has driven me nuts for years, and I can't figure out why it works in Photoshop and InDesign, but not Illustrator.
The other thing that really bugs me about Illustrator is that you can't change font faces by using the arrow key to flick through your font list. PS and ID have done this for years.
I have never come across a preference or a fix for this.

i can understand the
i can understand the annoyance.
one of the things i find (even more) annoying is that you can't do layer groups in illustrator like you can in PS. layer groups make handling layers *so* much easier. you can turn them on/off or lock/unlock them in large groups. plus scrolling is less of a hassle when you close groups you're not working on.
Yes, not being able to
Yes, not being able to scroll in the layers palette is really annoying.
gwells you can create layers and sub-layers in Illustrator which is similar to layer groups in that it helps the organistaion and you can lock / turn off groups of sub-layers.
good point. not quite as
good point. not quite as simple to deal with (as in groups, you can select a group of layers and automatically make a new group based on them).
wish they'd finish "coordinating" the interfaces between the programs. things like that should be done more similarly.
It seems Adobe has spent so
It seems Adobe has spent so much time making the three apps separate apps that it hasn't spent enough time standardizing their menus/palettes. I wonder if "feature bloat" limits their ability to do this?

Yeah it's a shame that there
Yeah it's a shame that there are still a few things that aren't consistent between all their applications.
Thank god they sorted out the shortcut for switching between files though, the fact that you could use CTRL + TAB in photoshop but had to use CTRL + F6 in Illustrator used to do my nut in.
ha
well at least I'm not the only one this bugs. Maybe if there are enough of us, Adobe will just fix it. But I will try creating sublayers inside the layers—that might help the long lists...good suggestion, speweywalshe!
