Scrolling LED on a web site
thornysarus (926 pencils) | Tue, 2007-10-23 01:54Problem: I've got to implement one of these on a client's site.
Before you ask: No. There's no talking them out of it.
Specifically: I'm looking for something that the client can update on a daily basis. I've seen a few that look like hell (LEDBar) and would like something fairly realistic.
Anyone?

My site for an example of a marquee. All they'd have to edit is some html in a text file. You could even make this an if you want.
To get the led effect you could possibly use css and at least get a dotted underline going. Not sure about dotted text...
Do you have an example? Then we could check out the source code and see how they did it.

But one that looks like a scrolling LED. With the dotted lettering and background and all. This one seems to be the most popular solution:

Not something I'd implement.

That one's done in flash.
Here's more on flash with an editable database:

I'm sure if you received a .fla file you could edit the graphics to your liking. I still think a marquee would be easier, and you can customize it with css with a txt file your clients can easily edit and upload regularly...

Do you mean like this?
LED Scroller Example 1
LED Scroller Example 2
LED Scroller Example 3
Not bad!
The only thing: I'd be really worried about posting myspace linking code to a company's website...hacking issue...

Option #4 is perfect but it is limited to 380 px wide if I wanted a 900 px wide one with no URL is that out there?
Just edit the width tag in the flash embed code to make it wider. Look for width="380".

3 and 4 links look very very promising. Thanks for these, NRG.
