Security question (very off topic)
mrjain (61 pencils) | Sat, 2005-09-10 16:44hey kids,
i know this question is fairly off topic. But, i'm sure some of you might benefit from it. I was at a WiFi hotspot a couple days back and got an error message saying "John Gardiner was trying to access an Office 2004 application." No clue who John Gardner is and didn't want to yell out his name at the coffee shop. I have a feeling someone must have been searching my harddrive and tried to copy a couple programs. I had the OS X firewall turned on.
Any programs to see what connections are being made to your computer and vice versa?
Any good OS X security guides to lockdown the Mac in a WiFi type environment?
thanks,
mrj

The OS X Firewall has an option to enable logging, showing what IPs are trying to access your machine. I don't know if that does the job totally, though.
If you're using the firewall then also enable Stealth mode, so people hitting your IP won't get a response from it and won't know it's there.
