"Select same..." in Illustrator
pokie (1213 points) | Wed, 2006-10-04 15:25Another question :) You guys helped a lot last time...
Okay, what I want to do is select the same SCREEN. When I go to select same fill color, it selects everything that is PMS 722. I just want it to select everything that is PMS 722 at 10%. I'm dealing with some pretty complex illustrations so this is a pain in the butt when I have to go in and change millions of screens individually.
I'm just wondering if there is a plug-in for this or a way of doing this that I've overlooked...
Thanks!

I'm not aware of a way to select items with the same screen, if the "select same" fill/stroke doesn't take into account screens.
If you used the slider tool on the "Color" palette to create the percentages of PMS 722 in your artwork (moving the slider to the left to lower the percentage), you need to select a desired screen with your direct selection tool. [White Arrow]
Then, go to the menu and choose "Select">"Same">"Fill Color". This will select ONLY the areas that contain the same percentage of PMS 722 that was selected.
If you created your PMS 722 percentages using the "transparency" palette (lowering the opacity) the process is very similar. You will select an area of color that you want to change and then go to "Select">"Same">"Opacity". This will select everything that is the same opacity of a specific color.
Yeah, that's what I was doing already and it didn't work. What's weird is that I made a new document with a bunch of gray toned boxes and it would select same fill on the same screen on those... it must be some weird thing in this particular illustration? I have no idea. These are vendor generated, so I can't be totally sure how they made it.
Just had the same problem. In illustrator/preferences/general, check "select same tint %" This will allow for select same fill to work only on percentage of fill opacity. Found useful to toggle this on or off for different uses. My 2 cents, this should be a tool option.- cheers
