I got that comment on the business cards as well. Or it looks like 'HK', I tried with the numbers but it was just too much. Now i'm wondering if it's ok, or i should relook it a little.
I recognize that you want the viewer to make the connection between your name and the gear shifter concept, but no matter how long I look at this image, I can't help but see the "HK," which to my mind takes away from the product and service you're aiming to sell. What about simply going with a more symmetrical set of lines...(hope this ASCII image works):

Another thing you could do is tilt the image 20 degrees to the left and then trace with a different colour the outline of the "S" shape from right to left.
Also, to help drive home the connection between logo and name, place "shift" above the image and "media" below. That would give you extra room to add a tagline, too, if you wished (and having one is a great way to tell people more about what you do).

Cool idea. Good execution. The M is not very apparent, but I can make it out...
A manual transmission guide. Is that what you're asking? I like this a lot. I actually didn't think "M" until Ivan's post.

P.S. Love the colours, by the way.
