Small construction company Branding
dkwelsh (5 pencils) | Wed, 2011-10-12 04:55Okay, so basically I'm tackling the branding of the over saturated market of a local building construction company.
There's no particular meaning of the company name just a combination of partners names.
Just concerned the design maybe a little "corny" but wanted to incorporate something relative to the company's work, as apposed to just a font.
Any advice would be appreciated...

The disembodied hand/wrenches are just floating, arbitrary trinkets. They add nothing to the design. If you want to incorporate a wrench, do it huge and run the company name through it, or on the handle of it, a la Craftsman crescent wrenches.
It's okay to blend the t and a (stop sniggering, you guys!) but the S and e must be separate, or you could let the S "chew" a bit out of the e.
Are you sure the word is "constructions" and not "construction"? The plural just screams ESL. The position is awkward and it's much too small. Try running it right across the full width of Seta, underneath it, with a larger point size.

I think you have a freedom here with a 'no particular meaning' of company name and you should explore in that direction. You can avoid images of hammers, nails, wrenches since the word 'construction' will do the job nicely all by itself.
I'd look into the shape of a hexagon as the main element of this design as it communicates the idea of building very naturally.
Without my sense of direction, I don't know where I'd be.

the fact that the wrenches negative space forms an S is fun. but i think if you do that. it should be the same S used in the logotype. otherwise it just comes off as haphazard in this application
Whoa. I totally missed that. I'm so ashamed of myself.

You're not the only one who missed it :) I too was surprised and disappointed.
As a follow on from what WGZN said - I think that the typeface used in the hands to form the 'S' DEFINITELY needs to be mirrored in the main typeface.

Me too. Someone said "wrenches" and my thought was they didn't look all that much like wrenches. Didn't even occur to spend a little time on it.
Still don't like it though. Sorry.
Work the tools into the text somehow.
ZM... 100. :-)
there is a lot to work with here. i didnt even think of the "eta' part as estimated time of arrival.
Redo the logotype.
Think bold and kern it.
yes I'm brazilian xD
I'd agree with the S-wrenches. At first glance I thought they were hands.. it wasn't until I examined the 'constructions' (should it be 'construction'?) and then re-examined that I saw the wrenches.
As far as the logo the font is alright but I think you could find a more suiting font for the construction industry, and as others have pointed out play with the kerning a bit. Also the end of 'constructions' should be aligned with the end of the last letter in the company name, IMO.
I'm curious if you switch fonts if you could somehow work the wrenches/S mark into the entire logo. You've then killed two birds with one stone having a logo and a mark.
Keep up the great work, this definitely has potential.
I didn't know what the floating graphics were until I read "construction". I would open the kerning on the word "construction" it is a little hard to read. Also, try a more simple font.
What if you connected the two wrenches into one unit as a mark?
Julie
I would change the type for a sans serif. But simple and bold.
Maybe a slab serif. Take the same "s" and try to fit in the brand mark.
