smoother Flash gallery?

The images are like "building blocks " according to the client...
They only about 60kb!
Will the transitions get smoother if I "break up" the images? ?

The file is only abot 500 x 300 px so you'll have to resize your browser size to that to see it correctly.

Its a tiny bit rigid, what is your frame rate pompo? I find sometimes increasing the frame rate a little bit can smooth out an animation.
Also your tweens, are you using easing when going between a light / dark scene - sounds silly but can actually look smoother if you fade slowly out of a black to white scene imo.
Im not sure if they will look smoother with images broken up or not... testing will tell you :)
One thing I would also like to suggest, the music at the end is really loud compared to the rest of the movie... could you take the volume down a bit (use script to control the fading)

I'm not using easing... I'll try that.
I'm only concerned about the smoothness of the scrolling images...
The frame rate is 12...should I increase it?
I remember that with faster moving images in another anim. I did and they did look smoother...
What ya think?

try a 18fps or even 30fps frame rate... 12 is pretty clunky.
Make sure to keep us updated on this thread, it would be interesting to see how changes like a frame rate increase smoothness etc.

in reality what plays in flash at 30fps will play a bit more like 24fps when embedded in a browser. usually between 8-10 fps are lost due to browser implementation.
images are blocky because your flash fits the browser window and you dont have enough resolution in your pics. you should convince the client to use
a fixed size.
furthermore, alpha's eat a lot of cpu power.
it is nor reccomended to do alpha transition on a picture larger than 640x480.
if you're site is 100% of the window, the larger the display resolution is, the slower it will animate.
easing in and out will help you animate everything a bit more realistic.
a good rule of thumb says that everything that enters a scene should decelerate and everything that goes out of a scene should accelerate.

Pompo: are you showing this swf to your client at it's default size or like you've shown us here?
The reason I ask, Clients are pretty stupid sometimes and if you tell them that its designed for 500x300, well... they wont know what on earth you're talking about. Dont take chances, just show them the document how it is supposed to be...
Flubdub: Good pointers about the alpha issues, I have to admit I had forgotten about that a little over time lol, and I didnt know about the 8-10fps being lost issue either, cheers for that.

i remember once i took a decent size photo and made it into a movieclip with 3% opacity then moved it from left to right of the scene. then i duplicated the movie about 20 times and i stacked them on top of each other varying the starting position a bit (so that they dont run synchronous).
i read the universal time at the start, let the movies play for like 15 secs. then got the universal time again. calculate the difference between the two times and you actually got yourself a mini benchmark. if the difference (transformed in seconds) equals roughly the timeline length, it played in real time. if not, you can see the delay. and i just runed this on different browsers and computers. the results were largely different.
