Snow Leopard: Migrating using Time Machine from Leopard

Ok. So here's the deal: As some of you know my old imac G5 17" died with the dreaded "swollen capacitor" syndrome. I have since purchased a Macbook Pro 15" that is going to be running Snow Leopard.

My PREVIOUS machine was running Leopard AND had been backed up to an external drive using time machine.

So my question is: Can I use the Installation DVD on the Macbook Pro to restore EVERYTHING (including apps etc) from my time machine backup? In other words what's going to happen if Time Machine restores the WHOLE shebang and overwrites the existing installation? Will I need to update after doing the restore?

A little foreknowledge would help before I spend a few hours rending the machine unusable.

Thanks.

Wish I had the answers for you. I would highly recommend skipping over to the Apple discussion boards and posting your question there. You'll definitely get some help there.

You need to wipe your disk. Restore it from Time Machine. Then upgrade to Snow Leopard. That's the safest way.

Ok.

Got the beautiful MB pro over the weekend and it was a BREEZE to set up:

Plugged in my Time Machine Back up.
Booted and got the "Welcome to Mac" animation and went through the set up which asked me to migrate from the time machine or some other source.
It took about two hours but it put EVERYTHING back the way it was supposed to. It looked as if my old iMac's Brain had been put into a better body! lol

I had SOME issues with software having to reenter serial number's etc. but everything seems to be normal.

HOWEVER:

It did NOT come with Snow Leopard! lol. I emailed Amazon and asked why and they responded by saying it's Apple's responsibility. . . lol so I'm just chalking that up to a "maybe I should wait to upgrade anyway" situation. i COULD email Apple and tell them the situation as it WAS advertised on Amazon's site that it WAS supposed to be included, BUT should I even go through all of that headache?

Wouldn't hurt to let them know you didn't get it. If anything, you'll maybe at least receive the upgrade software for free instead of having to pay for it.

I know. . . but it wouldn't be from Amazon (as they have told me after I emailed them with the complaint) They said call Apple. lol Talk about passing the buck!

Maybe I'll send an email to Apple. . . see what can be done.

perhaps apple will at least slap amazon's peepee over it. or even force amazon to pay for it.
