The butterflies are getting to be a bit overused these days (microsoft)...

Your 8 / mobius strip / infinity shape has LOTs of potential. I'm not crazy about the type inside the shape. Also lose the black line/drop shadow thing around it. But I think it's a great start.

Matt, I know how tempting it is to say 'Gee wiz look what I did in 40 minutes!'... It's fine for our purposes on this site, but I'd leave it off of your client comp. Also downplay your logo a bit, it's distracting. Your logo is solid enough to shrink down 70% and still maintain its legibility. I know this sounds nit-pickey, but presentations is everything.

Great start.

Considering the biggest software company on the planet branded itself with a butterfly, I don't think I could present this concept to a paying up-and-coming software client.

Also, any initial presentation to a client should have a minimum of three distinctly different visual concepts, and you need to show a variety of typographic treatments for each of those visual concepts.

Well this design was done to what the customer wanted the butterfly was asked for and although i do believe the butterfly has been overdone the customer is always right. And the reason for the time is because the customer is not paying that much and the reason for the big logo was beacuse i just quickly put it on there without resizing stupid mistake i know. I also think that the green is absolutly hideous. Thanks For the comments.

Thanks for the comments i learn by doing!

Matt,

I applaud your efforts both creatively as well as professionally to take your work and post it on this site to be reviewed.

With that said, I agree with everyone's comments thus far as well as some of yours. The customer is always right - true, however it is our job as professional creatives to urge them strongly in another way to approach their goal/vision while understanding and incorporating their existing idea. That IS harder then creating beautiful work (at times).

Matt your reasoning for putting the time on their is not only childish but unprofessional. You agreed to whatever terms you did to begin the job and you should honor them. It sounds like you are frustrated or annoyed with your client and should be more with yourself. The carnal rule for taking on clients is never take something on soley for the money and/or for only one reason and nothing more. Nine out of ten times it will bite you in the ass. I am still not clear as to why you need to express the time due to what you agreed???
I suggest you pick up a "Ethics and Professional Guidline's" book at the book store - it WILL help you better gauge your process, clients, projects and everyone's expectation's.

I hope you take this as a CONTRIBUTION and NOT an attack...we are all in the fight together. God speed.

Top left one has the most potential. It just doesn't look like a butterfly, but I like the simplicity.

The msn arguement is a strong one. Consider it.
