Solution for the spam issue...?
plugz (1244 points) | Sun, 2007-07-01 18:11How about appointing a couple of members as moderators with limited powers to remove certain posts from the critique and forum.
To be impartial perhaps not let them delete things fully but temporarily hide them until Ivan gets a chance to review them. I'm sure a few of us would be more than willing to help out and as we're all spread out over the globe there 's practically 24 hour coverage.

But only the ones we approve of. That's democracy in action, right, boyz?
Don't get me wrong -- my trash trigger is as itchy as the next one. Die, pouty-lipped teenie-boppers, die!

People tend to respect those who they have had a say in choosing far more than those appointed without discussion.
That said, perhaps a shortlist of 10 should be suggested by Ivan of people he'd trust with the responsibility and then the members can vote for them in a poll, the top two or three get moderator powers.
If one of them for whatever reason wants to resign as mod, then a new one can be elected in their place.

I had been thinking of this same idea ever since the crap started showing up in the Critique section. As a person whose been here longer than most of the regs, I'd like it to be someone who is not a new kid on the block, open minded, and wants to help more than anything. Someone who adds to the community. Plugz would be okay with me!!
Definitely something we could figure out. I was pretty upset when my CSS question was below like 15 stupid posts... grrr...
The spam module has been successful so far catching dozens a day. Some guys figured out the way to go around the spam filter. I'll upgrade the spam filter and add some more protection. It should fix the issue.
Just thought it must be annoying for you to have to deal with it all.
