When I clicked on any of the links —vector graphics, comic art, etc.—it brought up a whole new browser window, rather than just a new tab, which is my firefox default. Just thought it was kinda weird. Do you even need to bring up a new tab? To me, it seems unnecessary.

it's an interesting look and i like the color palette.

agreed that opening new tabs is annoying and unnecessary.

the text is in courier? it's very difficult to read in gray over that striped background.

the repeated background where the opened envelope with the stamp pops up over and over again doesn't do it for me. just too many copies of that envelope.

there's no menu at the top of the subpages, so you have to scroll all the way to the bottom to get to navigation. very bad, especially since some of your pages are very very long.

i'm not sure i get the point of the video on the home page.

Not a bad site! But in addition to other comments, a few gripes:

1. Home page is WAY too big, 889K and took forever to load. Make it 160K or less. You can do it with fewer images.

2. FF2 there are some graphic gaps in the top bar.

Nicely done, but needs some more work.

Good Site. The loading is annoying. I like your artwork. There is a typo on your homepage disclaimer...."images" only has one "m".

thanks all of you for the kind feedbacks! always here helpful comments.
I have done the popups becouse you can see the portfolio labs on the left when the cilp on the homepage running yet the music,so a sort of music base for the all website.
About the botton menu on the popups pages because you have to see all my stuff before you can do the next step ;)
Sorry about the long time loading , from here seems not so harsh..and thanks for the correction on the iMMages, in italian is "immagini" with two m so my confusion ..need more work my english too :)

i'm not sure what you mean by being able to see portfolio tabs on the left with the popups, but i can tell you that trying to force my browser to do what you want it to is very annoying to many users (myself included). popups are, in general, bad.

music is, in general, not appreciated by me. i hate sites w/music, unless it's something i turn on. even then, i wouldn't turn it on. i have my own soundtrack, i don't want one in my browser. if i can't easily turn it off, i'll usually just close the tab and leave the site.

forcing me to scroll through all of your stuff to get to navigation is also annoying to the user. if you think forcing the user to see everything in a huge scrolling list will benefit you, i think you're misunderstanding the user experience. you need to make navigation *EASY* and *SIMPLE* for the user. if you give someone a reason to be frustrated, that's going to be the emotion they relate to looking at your work.

so... do you want someone to think, "maurizio... yeah, i remember that guy's site. i had to scroll through pages of stuff to get to his navigation."? because that's what at least some designers/art directors are going to remember first.

Some others have already pointed this out, but you have a really good design here that is really poorly executed for the web (not trying to be a douchebag, just trying to help). Here are some issues--

1. Loading, as others have said. Even on high speed cable Internet it took a long time for it to load.

2. The layout is too wide. 950px is a good width to work with for web. This is just barely too wide, it makes a horizontal scrollbar in most cases.

3. Too busy. Although it is generally good looking design, there is way too much going on. My eyes want a break from the madness :)

4. On my browser, there's a strip of color at the bottom, since the background image isn't tall enough. It doesn't look very good.

Personally I would suggest getting rid of the background image in favor of a very simple repeating texture. This would address 3 of the above points.

Good job, just needs a little more work :)

Edit: I just looked at the code... a table based layout?! You do realize this is the 21st century right? *sigh*

+1. Out with tables for web design layouts. Use them to display data; that's their main purpose.

Your website reminds me of one of those HUGE picture frames with a tiny square in the middle containing the picture.

In other words, the layout is very nice, but it is very distracting. It loads slowly, and it seems like the last thing to look at is your actual work. You want your portfolio to be the star, not your layout.

Also, I would second the music thing. I hate when websites have music. Picture this: I'm chillaxing to my itunes, and suddenly another track BLARES at the same time. I'm leaving your website before I close my itunes, thanks. And besides, you're a designer. If you think someone is going to hire you for music you put on your website, I would think again.

One other thing, I wouldn't recommend putting your layout of the current site into your portfolio. That gives the impression that you ran out of work so you had to fill it in with something that has already been displayed.

I like your style, though. I just think toning down the actual layout will help bring the attention to your actual work.
