Hi,
I'm writting because i just got a sound hardware problems. Days ago i plugged in an earphone to hear music. After I took it out there wasn't any sound going out of my apple. Every time i want to hear something i have to plugge in something.
Also, I noticed that if there's a sound output trying to be heard and i don't have any device plugged in there's a red light coming out of that slot. I figure that's because my macbook it's trying to get the sound out but doesn't find anything.
Any help would be appreciated
Greetings,
Just a newbie
Did you try. . .
1. using the volume keys on the keyboard?
2. Opening the Apple menu-System Prefs-Sound panel and seeing if you output is selected as speakers?
3. The red light out of the slot is confusing, not sure what that could be.

Sounds like a bad sound card
Sounds like a bad sound card or your headphones were recognized by your computer's Audio settings. Go to System Prefs/Audio and make sure your output says your internal speakers rather than your headphones.

Powerpoint is not a design application
red light
is optical audio. might be that your output is set to optical audio.

The red light is the optical signal...
There's a little switch inside the port, try inserting the 3.5mm jack half way ad wiggling it about a bit to disengage the optical switch.
I've been having issues with my MacBook at the moment, I've got not optical audio coming out of it, I have the red light, but the signal isn't reaching my receiver.
my issue
is that I can't use the mic with G5. really don't know why :) maybe because of the same thing.
mac is stupid sometimes also :)) not only MS Win :P
or both are smart as much as the user is. haha
