Soundit
pannpann (5 points) | Sat, 2005-09-24 00:10As one can probably figure out, this is a design for a sound-community. It isn't a real site in any way, I just felt like doing this template and created a profile for a 'fake site'.
It's supposed to be aimed at people in general who like to listen to music, but also the more hardcore enthusiasts which also create their own pieces should be able to find some interesting stuff here. I tried to keep the interface pretty clean, both in terms of graphics and content.
I've been reading creativebits for some time now but I just decided to join. It would be great to hear what you've got for tips for me to improve my work :)
(The design was originally posted at dA)
Thanks in advance! :)

I think its great, the only suggesion I would have is to remove the drop shadow around the orange box on the right. Just feels a little inconsistent having no shadow elsewhere and then a small and shy shadow on the orange.
Great work and welcome to CB !

Welcome to Creativebits!
The site looks good, why not build it?
I know Ivan gonna like this because it's orange look =)
Ivan will definitely like this! Anyway, this is pretty nice, but I feel that the background should be a darker grey... Or maybe it's just because I like the color scheme of creativebits. =)
I think it's really fantastic! I would absolutely love to use a site like this!
I agree with Jammo, loose the drop shadow on the colored box (but... the shadow might look good surrounding the boarder of the whole page... it's not needed though, just a thought).
You acheived what you wanted i.e., pretty clean interface. However, you might want some suggestions to improve on it. Here you go
Colour: Orange is tangy and bright, it's nice colour; associated with more of Electronic/Trip Hop genre.
Concept: What exactly are you trying to convey? You said it's a community, there is nothing symbolic in the header that says about community or about the tagline 'for the beauty of sound'
Typography: You should think of making some style in the logotype. Arial is common.
Some of the grey headlines are hardly visible, you might want to make it prominent. And so does the credit line 'By: John Randall' and the like
Search box needs proper place, the go button isn't in terms with the text box.
Overall it's a pretty good start.

Now, I'm interested. :)
very nice and clean. congrats! the only few things I would mention that cought my eye:
1. Search text form. Can you not style it more? Maybe slightly rounded corners?
2. The speaker on the right. It looks accidental. I think the earbuds is enough for the header.
3. Toolbox icon. Maybe just a wrench or just the cog is enough. No need to have both.
4. Headlines (titles) in orange. You may want to consider making them slightly bolder, because they are kinda lost.
5. Do you not want to add a thin border around the black and white image? A thin orange or grey border?
6. iPod icon bottom right corner needs to be rounded I guess.
7. Minus sign for bullets for categories is unusal. Maybe you can lose them? Not sure about this. Something proprietary, something music related would be cool.
8. Generally the copy size is a bit too small. I'm not saying make it as big as here on cb, but a bit bigger would help legibility.
Hope you will find something valuable in my comments.
Most people who visit that site, knowing a lot about music, will probably see straight away that that song is quite boring and monotonous. It looks closer to a heart monitor than a piece of music.
