Speed up your upgraded Tiger installation
Ivan | Thu, 2005-05-19 21:28If you didn't do clean install you're missing out on a new technology that speeds up application startup.
1. Quit sys prefs.
2. Open terminal and type these in:
sudo mkdir /etc/xinetd.d.bak
sudo mv /etc/xinetd.d/* /etc/xinetd.d.bak/
3. Restart
It worked for my installation and all apps are starting up indeed faster. The restart feels faster too. To start up Sys prefs only takes one bounce, which is amazing. Before it was 3.

Switch on Quartz 2D Extreme. Thanks to mayhemstudios for the tip.
It requires an ATI Radeon 9600 or NVIDIA GeForce FX or better. If you have the developer tools installed from the Tiger DVD you can run the Quartz Debug from Developer/Applications/Performance tools and choose the Tools menupoint to find the Enable Quartz 2D Extreme.
Now, if you restart any application you should feel how much smoother the graphics are.
Thanks Ivan!
I used the first post and it made a big difference on all our Macs. I still plan to do a clean install this week on my Powermac.
