StarWars III
Ivan | Thu, 2005-05-19 20:06I don't want to spoil it for you if you haven't seen it, just want to say that it was WOW! It was a weird feeling to watch a movie that you know how it beginned and also how it will end. :) Still it was very entertaining. It's as good as IV V and VI were. The best thing about it that all the CG was not put out there evidently in my face. It was all in the background making great believable environments. I think this movie sold the 6 pack DVD for me! :D

I thought it was wretched. I'm a huge Star Wars fan and the movie sickened me. Read my blog below to read my impressions on it.

Being a huge star wars fan I liked it a lot, however it is still not my favorite. And Lucas once again does his cutesy thing by ruining the seemingly cool general grevious. Grevious was LAME he was soo cool in the animated clone wars serious, he was a real bad ass, his voice was a lot cooler too. Lucas makes Grevious almost commical with his accent and his constant smokers cough. WHY WHY WHY can't he just give some characters a regular voice? I mean I can understand if it gives a character more character but grevious had enough style that he didn't need a stupid accent. Also Grevious dies in a lame way and sees much less screen time than i would have imagined. But I guess thats a good thing since I hated his voice.
I was also disappointed with the final duel between anakin and obi-wan. It had its moments and i did get a tingle down my spine as it was happening, but at times it was WAY too cartoony. Especially when they are climbing up that metal thing and floating on the lava. And anakin does a boneheaded move that that costs him a few limbs, that was very disappointing.
Good parts:
Palpatine, Yoda, explanation of anakin's birth (although somewhat subtle), seeing things I had only thought about (how palpatine gets so ugly, the delivery of luke and leia, anakin becoming vader), opening scene, more violent, killing younglings, not as much slap stick
Bad parts:
dialogue (as usual) "so this is how liberty ends, with a thunderous applause" etc, mustafaar final duel (at times), battle of kashyyk (way too short, I want my wookies damnit!), general grevious (big letdown), short count dooku scenes, Qui Gon mentioned but not seen, certain moments of slap stick (chewie's tarzan yell as heard again in ROTJ), special effects at times (clone troopers w/out masks, luke and leia babies, obi wan riding the lizard thing, etc) I know there's more but I cant think of them right now.
Don't get me wrong I liked the film, its clearly the best of the prequels. I think I was expecting this movie to be the best star wars ever, and it should have been, it has the best content of the film, but the bad stuff nags. So heres where it ranks in terms of my fav star wars filmes.
1. ESB
2. ANH
3. ROTS
4. ROTJ
5. AOTC
6. TPM
Right now it is number 3 although I can't make up my mind really until i see it again. Well that was long winded! What can I say I'm a fan, I love these films and I'm very critical. Sorry for the long post, I had to vent.

Not shown? I could have sworn I saw a very brief glimpse of him (or maybe it was just a very Liam Neesonesque guy) near the end of the scenes with Obi-Won and Grievous' fight.
Very well done, especially compared to I & II

I might get beat up, but all of the star wars movies did nothing for me. Maybe it's just my dislike for make believe movies, but it bores the hell out of me. Give me a good movie with good actors, based in reality, and I am all for it. I just can't relate to make believe movies.

That's strange. Your characters are not real either. Or does your preference only apply to movies?
Yeah, but the characters are cartoons, cartoons are build on make-believe. I can see where you see the flaw in my opinion, all I can say is I don't enjoy Star Wars, and I am really never impressed with special effects in those kinds of movies or in action movies. I guess I am just not the typical guy, I prefer the silly cartoon make-believe.

An art guy who doesn't like make believe? That makes no sense to me.
I hated the first two (I don't even remember what happened in them to be honest), but this one was really good.
that is interesting. I do understand where your coming from in terms of CG. Now, it's going to take a helluva lot more than slick 3d generated models to impress me.
although i was blown away when the first matrix came out. and i love finding nemo. unrelated but cool.

Appearntly the Red Bull F1 Racing Team is having Star Wars visitors this weekend in Monaco by the guys and Lucas himself is a F1 fan..
A little notice.. On the Barge bords it says.. Powered by the darkside LOL
gotta love the guy up above the banner?
He's not pointing finger.. I've seen the high res version and he's taking photos with his celluar phone..
I saw it today having hated the last two with a passion. I'm definitely not a Star Wars fan, I just couldn't believe that this guy was feted as a visionary was making such badly constructed stories. He had all these talented people and huge resources and he still couldn't hold a coherent story together.
BUT.....
I have to say that I was sucked in and enjoyed it thoroughly as a popcorn movie. There were some wonderful moments of pure cinema such as Yoda fighting the Emperor in the Senate. They really left Anakin buggered up in the end. Some incredibly weak dialogue between the lovebirds but the pace was good and the ending was quite well done. I still think he's a worthless hack as a director but at least the Star Wars fans can move on with their lives now and Lucas can stop coasting on his legacy.
