stop smoking
archmedia's picture

not working for me at all..

not to mention, a slight brief on who the client is, or what it's for would have been nice..

with that said, i don't see how a cigarette should be looking like a bleeding victim. And the use of the gun doesn't help in my opinion, i think it gives kids the idea that shooting things to stop the addiction/craving/annoyance is the solution to things..

all in all it's just not working for me, sorry

Is this denouncing

Is this denouncing cigarettes or advocating guns?

geoff's picture

Sorry

but the phrase "Shoot it before it shoots you" doesn't really make sense to me. Cigarettes don't shoot. Something like "Stop it before it stops you" would be better imho.

plugz's picture

*sigh*

I'm getting really fucking bored of these pathetic stop smoking posters.

Listen up:

People don't like being told what to do, they do however aspire to be like images they see promoting good living and people enjoying life.

Guns? Are you fucking kidding me?
I'm sat here having not smoked all day and now, I'm going to light one up just to spite your poster.

Show me grass, clouds, people outdoors in a smokeless environment having fun. Show me a juxtaposition of the same bar, with and without smoke. Show me the positive side of not smoking, don't try to tell me smoking is bad.

EVERYONE KNOWS SMOKING KILLS!
It's plastered all over the packs I smoke, today's latest messages: "Smoking when pregnant harms your baby" and on the other side, simply "Smoking kills".
No shit sherlock.

People who smoke know the risks, the most effective PROVEN way to stop people doing thing is to gently persuade them that it's actually a good idea after all and offer them support to do it.

In closing.
Scrap it.
'Apple' + 'A' + 'Backspace'.

Start over.
Research it first and come back to me in a week with something worth critiquing.

You know that may sound

You know that may sound harsh.

I have had a particularly bad day and you've caught me in a bit of a mood, but I just wanted to say that on reflection, I meant every word of it.

It's not a personal attack.
I'm just calling a spade a spade.

Quite honestly, disturbing.

Quite honestly, disturbing. And not in the "I want to quit smoking now" kind of way. It looks to promote gun violence as an alternative to smoking, and not only that but it suggests cigarettes to be living beings that bleed and die.

Horrid, sorry.

I agree, it sends the wrong

I agree, it sends the wrong message. The tag line doesn't make sense. The imagery isn't very good and the font blows. Start over.

I think the concept is

I think the concept is misdirected and needs rethinking. Its like youre promoting the use of guns while urging people to stop smoking; while the latter is a good message, the use of a gun and "shoot" is in bad taste to me. I think you should concentrate on just one message - quitting smoking and do away with the "shooting" direction. Focus on the cigarrette/smoking and see what you can do with it to put your message across.

Too sensationalist.

That gun needs to be cleaned. Berettas can fail to fire if not maintained well.

Haven't we seen this before?

Please correct me if I am wrong... but this same image was up for critique over a month ago and you got the same comments as you have above. Just from memory... you haven't changed a thing. Why did you repost something that obviously didn't work this first time?

Negativity NO

The execution is not right. I believe a positive approach may open more possibilities to deliver the message. If you necessarily think the concept phrase has to be there, execute the graphics in a more suggestive way, not literally.

Guns don't kill people.

Guns don't kill people. Cigarettes with guns kill people.

Tired...

The American Legacy Foundation has been running one of their Truth ads for a while now that revolves around "light" bullets. It's been done...better.

Wait...

I got it. I should shoot people who smoke. Yes?

As far as smoking posters goes, if a client is paying you to create a non-smoking type of poster, I don't see a problem presenting it for critique here.

I agree with most of the

I agree with most of the comments made here. I think there are enough guns and violence as it is... don't use the just because they're strong visual symbols.
And, the ad doesn't make sense the smoking shoots you????
It's way too violent, you can make a much stronger point using subtle imagery.
