Stuck for a logo
mara06 (2548 pencils) | Wed, 2006-12-13 18:09Folks, I've been spinning my wheels trying to come up with a logo. Would you like to offer a site for inspiration that you've found helpful in the past for opening up your creative flow?

I came up with a few ideas for this client. Not thrilled with any of them. I think the client's business plan is too vague and scattered. This might reveal itself to be a serious marketing problem. Maybe I should discuss this with the client -- or is that none of my business?
How would you deal with a situation like that?

You are definitely within your rights to bring it up to them. Sounds like this company is good at what it does, but not so good at marketing itself. That's where your expertise can really come into play.

We creatives are accustomed to hearing that we're what boils down to freaks, yet in my experience we're the ones with the clarity and vision to see things both as they are and as they can (or ought to) be. When clients bring us muddy ideas, and ask that these be reflected in our design, we need to quit trying to do the impossible, and place the onus back on the client to get the mud out.
Sometimes I've been able to demystify a strange business concept with a good design package, but more often than not, relationships with confused clients -- no matter how charming or bright or even generous they might otherwise be -- are pretty much doomed. Time for us to quit taking the blame!

We're not only facilitators of marketing concepts but translators of its end result as well.
If a bad client doesn't accept my recommendations I am perfectly willing to accept their money, but the job does not go into my portfolio, more often than not due to the situation you described. ;)
