Studio shared work storage space and backup

We are planning to buy one of these RAID 1 drives for the office:

Effectively giving us 500GB storage space for shared work on a 1TB HD.
What do you think?

As a backup I'm still looking for DAT drives. Any suggestions on what would work well in a Mac environment?

For performance reasons, it's better to have 2x500GB drives. This way when mirrored using RAID 1, you'll take advantage of the mechanical parts of both discs. Where will the storage be connected? Direct to the server or on a SAN? I hope your LAN infrastructure can take the load (100mbps as minimum)

As for backup, take a look at the LTO technology as it is faster with larger capacity than DDS.
