Stumpy's Gateway Roadhouse
claire_bates_design (11 pencils) | Tue, 2010-01-05 03:00This is a logo im working on for a Roadhouse in the country area of Western Australia.
One in greyscale and colour.
I did'nt want to use a country western for as that is very obvious and tipical for roadhouses.
Any feedback would be greatly appreciated and taken into account.
Thanks

Hello Claire! I'm brazilian and visited Perth some years ago =D I went by train from Mellbourne =]
u could try to add some perspective to road or make something more funny =D like some character what do you think? don't you think this concept is "tired" for people that travelled so far? Look the scene, it's like you needed to stop because there is just a huge mountain to overcome.
I think you don't need to make it so literally. I prefer some funny Stumpy's character or something more "curved" to function like a wayside rest for my tired eyes... ;D
and don't forget to make bigger size for publicitary text, you don't need to concentrate below your logotype.
yes I'm brazilian xD
The mark isn't bad.. but it looks too detached from the text. IMO, you need to find a way to work them in together.
Interesting novel idea. I would try to simplify it a bit, while keeping the concept. There are just too many details for a logo right now. Also, too many typefaces. Use 2 at most.
Agree with qwerty, its a long ride and a road would be to obvious.
I like the idea of the house below the road but I think you can do better, the road has a sudden ending and is white with gray dashed lines?
@Ivan: Where is the 3th typeface?
A roadhouse in Canada is more of a pub styled restaurant...is that the same in Australia? Or is it more of a bed and breakfast-lodge?
EDIT: Please note that I'm still for keeping the mark with some additional heavying up and making more icony...but the battling fonts need work...need to know what sort of establishment before suggesting any style fixes.

The idea is there and the intent as well. I like the persepective vs a typical "flat" solution. You're on the right track with the icon but the type needs much more work. It just looks thrown in.

Check out what I've been up to lately!

I'm going to print it out and eat it.

and if you can get the menus on the tables to sit in that shape would be sweet!
16 billion colours and you choose the one i cant create !??!
The type is almost working for me. The "roadhouse" is too cutesy and doesn't say "food", imho. Thumbs down on that part.
Make the lines what stronger, more graphic. Try to unite the graphic with the typography. Right now they do not hang togethor. I also miss a food element or a fork in the road.
Thanks for all the comment so far
For Ivan: there are only 2 fonts used.
For 3dogmama: A roadhouse in WA is a petrol station/ restaurant/ truck stop
Ah...like a Fifth Wheel here. Now I'm on the page.
Yes, no country western fonts and the mark can work if simplified and lines heavied up.
At this point I would play with positioning of the mark and text, plus enlarge the name. Currently it is vying for attention with the graphic.
Font wise, I would probably experiment with more friendly, welcoming faces such as Cooper Black.
I also think robbie's idea of the menus on the table mirroring the road logo would be awesome.

thank you 3dog

Cooper Black only makes it look like a Doors album..
or Tootsie roll...

font doesnt really convey "stumpy-ness" and what im guessing is supposed to be a road looks more like hem tape.
