Stupid question about Photoshop Elements - YES, PS Elements..
onegirlcreative (1095 points) | Fri, 2009-01-02 14:45I have a friend who recently purchased a Macbook (lucky dog), and apparently she used Virtual Photographer as a plugin with Photoshop Elements on her PC before, and wants to purchase this plugin(?) for her Mac. She heard that they do not make this particular plugin (Virtual Photographer) for the Mac platform, so do you guys know if a.) this is true, or b.) is there something comparable to this?
I have NO idea what Virtual Photographer is, especially since I have never used Photoshop Elements, so I figured I'd ask the experts, just in case.
Thanks Guys! And oh, Happy New Year! I hope everybody was safe.

On their download site it says PC only.
All Virtual Photographer consists of is applicable styles, like Sepia, Guassian Blur/Overlays, etc.
There are a LOT of comparable results from things like photoshop actions, other plug-ins (not necessarily all-in-one), etc. Some of this can even be done in iPhoto.
I guess my point is that though something else might not be as easy/user-friendly, there are other ways to get the desired result. If she doesn't want to learn the two-three steps to achieve that end result, there are countless actions and plugins for download (ie. Sepia).

She should rather learn Photoshop to do these tricks. You can teach her in a few hours. She will have more freedom and fun using Photoshop instead of using such plugins.
And of course doesn't want to spend the several hundred dollars to purchase the full version of PS. But I also mentioned the uses of iPhoto, since it really has come a long way from the beginning of OS X time.
Since she is an amateur, I imagine her uses are quite simplified, but I don't know for sure.
Thanks for your answers.

If she wants more editing capabilities than iPhoto, and even Elements, I think, have her get the free Gimp image editor. It's a bit on the geeky side (requires you load X11 but Gimp helps you do this) but once installed it's great to have around:

leaving aside the whole "hundreds of dollars more than elements" issue, that is.
to be fair, tho, the "experts" wouldn't likely ever use elements, so i doubt any of us will know what kinds of plugins might work there. we could give great advice on PS, but as i mentioned, there's a several hundred dollar difference in the cost between those two programs.
Found some good Elements tutorials here:

I appreciate the research and excellent link. I will definitely forward this onto her and go from there.
Thanks to everyone for your responses, as well.
