Surf Club Charity

This is my logo ideas for a US charity that strives to benefit the children of Costa Rica by providing them with donated surfing equipment.
The name comes from the founders' experience kayaking on a blue river that met a muddy one at the sea.
The second logo reflects that story more than the first logo, which is inspired by a Costa Rican artist's sculpture.
It does seem a bit tame for an organizatriion ull of old hippies, but that might be good for raising funds.
let me know what you think, thanks.

hmm
Typography seems a little disjointed. I don't really like the larger CAPs on the two different fonts.
I'm not too sure on the graphical part, it looks a litlle too much like a washing machine cycle to me. The graphics seem to be completely separate to the text.
I would try and think of the fun which this donated equipment gives these kids.
I think the surf idea has legs, but I think it needs a little more work.
Rather conservative for the purpose
For a charity that benefits children, I feel it should have some color. Especially since it's one that provides surfing equipment.
The fonts are also rather conservative, which doesn't reflect the purpose of the group, either. Perhaps something a bit more open and friendly?
...
My first thought was "damn thats a lot of type." I know there is nothing you can do about the amount of copy for a headline, but maybe you can underplay the fact that it is a long name by organising the type better. Also the swirl seems abit generic, I am sure you can come up with something more impactfull and unique.

no color first round!
No color on the first round! It has to hold up in b/w first, no?
Anyway, thank you for the comments. You are right, way too conservative and the text should be deemphasised. I should have waited for the inspiration I got in my cheerios this morning. I post that design in a moment with link to here.

BW
i agree it has to hold up in BW first.. with that said, i'm curious how this turned out in the end. would love to see an update.
Can you make 'the' and
Can you make 'the' and 'project' smaller in comparison to "Pura Vida Confluencia'? Would help emphasize the actual name of the group.
Make the text a bit larger overall compared to the icon. Right now the icon is dominating a bit too much.
Examples here. Search for 'charity' for some good examples.
