These made me smile:) But do you think they might be too edgy for dictionary.com? Also the "burst" is showing through the bird and the lady and in the other piece as well.
This isn't an example of a synonym, though. It's a homonym -- a word that sounds the same as another, but is spelled differently and means something different. A synonym for pecker would be beak. Or, well, you know....
Spec work...but Dictionary.com has a predominantly male audience - and of that audience, over 60% is 34 or younger. I thought it might be a stretch, but not too extreme of one.
don't get too carried away with the age demographic, and a niche side of that demographic to boot. just because their audience is younger doesn't mean they want to project a sexual image in their advertising. they're a word definition service, their advertising should reflect that. unless you have some reason to believe they're looking to change their image to one that would include strong sexual overtones.
Your designs are pretty good. Your copy is not. Get a copywriter to do the copy for you because the sexual references are just not going to fly, especially for dictionary.com.

well... that's not spelled differently than the word "penis" version of the word pecker.
still, it seems completely inappropriate for the client. is this for an actual client, classwork, or spec work?
Oh, correct. Different from
Oh, correct. Different from they're/their/there. I suppose the very idea of peckers has me all rattled ;-)

Great that you did the research...
bt I dunno, maybe it's the purpose of the site that is of a more serious tone which is what is really making me think twice about the concept.
