Hi

This was a very good tutorial (http://creativebits.org/indesign/indesign_nested_styles) but I need to know from the experts is this:

My client LOVES using his logo type font INSIDE of paragraphs. That is every time his company name appears he has two font styles applied to it each time. So rather than selecting each instance of his company name I would like to set up a nested style so that every time his company name appears in the paragraph and the document body text, (randomly of course) It would style it automatically.

Is this possible? and how can I use nested styles to do this?

hi im trying to design a logo and i have a hard time grasping what is typically associated with a design/webdesign company im going to have the company text in plain helvetica but i need an icon aswell anyone with some ideas i want the icon to be associated to the color red since the name will be just that but that is just not enough

How to download and convert YouTube to Video and DVD

Most of us go to Youtube website to watch Youtube videos. But have you thought about downloading videos from Youtube and watch them on your mobile players or TV ? The following are the three steps to get the job done:

1.Download YouTube Video using online site or free tools.
2.Convert YouTube videos to iPod, iPhone, PSP and other video formats.
3.Burn YouTube video to DVD

To download videos from YouTube, you can follow the methods below:

1.Free Online Conversion:
Some websites provide free download of Youtube videos. The following are three of them:

http://www.zamzar.com/

Step1, take http://vixy.net/. for example, open the website.
Step2, visit http://www.youtube.com to find your need video,copy the URL (e.g, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uaue-CuNgZg&feature=related ) from the Address field of your Internet browser, or copy the link from the RED dialog box.

Step3, paste the link at the URL field of http://vixy.net/. after you open this website, select a conversion format from the “Convert to” field, and click OK to start the download and conversion. After it is finished, you will see a link “Download the converted video”, click this link and save the final video on your computer.

Note: This is a very easy way to download and convert Youtube movies, but the conversion speed may not be very desirable and you can only download one file at a time.

2.Free Download Tool
Go to the site to download Free YouTube Downloader .This software can automatically detect Youtube movies that have been opened and can download multiple files at a time. See the screenshot below:

Make sure you turn the recorder on, so every Youtube movie can be automatically added to download. By default, the downloaded files are saved under C:\Program Files\Wondershare\Free YouTube Downloader\Categories. You can also sort your files using the sub-categories.

Note: If you want to watch the downloaded videos on your mobile devices, you can click the “Convert” button to upgrade it to YouTube Downloader, then you can convert them or your local FLV files to the formats supported by your mobile devices such as iPod, iPhone, cell phone, MP4 player and so on.

To convert Youtube movies to different formats for your mobile players:

As mentioned above, the three websites can do both download and conversion. So the first method is to directly use the above-mentioned three websites to convert Youtube movies to the formats that your players support.

You may also want to find a conversion tool that can convert downloaded Youtube movies, which are in FLV format. In this case, you can do a search on google with the key words of “FLV to video” and see what you can find. There are various FLV conversion tools available. If you also want to edit your Youtube movies before converting them, you can give Wondershare Video Converter a try. See the screenshot below:

You can follow the steps below to use this software:

Step1. Add Files
Click the Add button to add the saved FLV files from your computer hard disc.

Step2. Edit Movie
Crop Movie: You can crop a Youtube movie if it has black sides. Just drag the crop frame (in broken line) and the video area within the crop frame will be what you get finally. See the screenshot below:

Set Movie Effect: If you want to change the original brightness, contrast and saturation. You can also select a special video effect, say Emboss, to apply to a movie. See the screenshot below:

Step3. Convert
Select an output format according to your mobile device from the “format” drop-down list, and click “Start” to start the conversion. All the converted files can be found at the output directory (C:\Program Files\Wondershare\Video Converter Platinum\Output by default).

Part3, burn YouTube video to DVD

If you are a big Youtube Fan and want to collect Youtube movies or any Flash files (either FLV or SWF format), burning Flash to DVD could be a good idea for backup and making gift DVDs. FlashOnTV is one of the few apps that can get the job done. What’s good about this app is that it can burn FLV and SWF movies to DVDs with real DVD menus. The following are the 4 steps to use this software:

Step1, Click button “Add”on the top left to add SWF or FLV movies. See the screenshot below:

Step2, Click “Next” on the bottom right to preprocess the added Flash movies. The purpose of preprocessing is to convert SWF files to FLV format. I think this is because this app only directly burns FLV movies to DVD. So it will convert SWF movies to FLV movies before burning, and the status of each added FLV movie will be considered as (preprocessing) completed. See the screenshot below:

Step3, Click the Next button to design DVD menu. A DVD menu consists of different elements including frames, buttons and texts. From the drop-down list, you can select a menu template, movie frame(s) and buttons, and edit the texts on your menu template. You may also add a background image and background music. On the menu, each movie will be put in a frame, so you can use your remote control to select any movies you want to play after they are burned to a DVD. if you have quite a few movies, you could select a menu template with more frames. See the screenshot below:

Step4, Click “Next” to get prepared to burn your movies to DVD. At this last step, you can check the default settings to see if you want to use them. If not, you can just change the settings and click Start to start burning. See the screenshot below:

I am really wonder and really need to ask for advices. I was thinking to get a job in big agency to gain more experience and reality check. Currently, I am working in one design agency.

I wonder, if there is not job advertising that post in that company. But, I am really wanna to try to apply a job in that agency. Do you all think that, its better for me to send my resume personally with my portfolio or send through email to their hr? Or may be don't try at all =( ...Which one actually works more for you?. Please kindly give me your thoughts...

Hi all,

until a few days ago all my virtual servers on OSX worked just fine. I typed in something.dev into the address bar in safari and I landed on the development site on my local machine.

However all of a sudden this did no longer work. MAMP was on, servers running, but I was redirected to a search page generated by Roadrunner (Time-Warner) my ISP. Why did this not work?

So I changed my DNS to OpenDNS, but with the same (but ad free result). I restored my netinfo database according to Apples instructions. Still nothing.

What I did find out however is the following:

The dev domain forwarding to localhost DO work when I am not using a period in the URL (like something.dev -> somethingdev works). Does anyone know how to fix this? I know I could make changes to the hosts file, but that would also require that I run OSX's own web server. Since I am running MAMP that would be overkill.

Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

I need some advice on how to approach a client of mine whom I've done plenty of work for in the past. He has paid me promptly every single time in exception to now. Its been over 3 weeks and still have not been paid.

To make things more difficult he is also a close family friend. I know many of you have probably been in a situation similar to this and I would like to know how you would handle this if you were in my shoes.

Has anyone moved to a completely different state for a job? I'm job hunting and I am thinking of possibly moving out-of-state. I'm in Michigan now but I'm thinking of moving far west or east coast. I want to move into a good housing and job market of course. I'm in my late 20's with no wife or kids, and I don't own a house.

So, should I just pick a state, move there and then find a job? Or should I try to interview at places out of state, in which case I'd have to fly or drive there for the interview. Any insight is appreciated!

I've heard that CS4 will be coming out...i'm not sure when though :)
Issues?? Will it have a more annoying serial number and activation procedure??

I have in front of me some old technical illustrations that were done in Freehand. My task is to darken the coloring of the gradients in these illustrations.

I don't work in Freehand, don't want to work in Freehand. The problem, as it has always been, is that when gradients are brought into Illustrator from Freehand, they are broken up into umpteen little slices of slightly different shades to simulate the original gradient. Normally I would just recreate the gradient in illustrator or work in Freehand, but on this job, I don't have the time to do that. There are simply too many to do.

My question is if there is any way to convert or save a Freehand file that will open with an Illustrator style gradient when opened in Illustrator?
