Elephant paints self portrait
Submitted by Ivan on Fri, 2008-03-28 23:32.Unbelievable. I'm pissed enough at kids with gaming PCs running CorelDraw undercutting me with their prices on logo designs. Now, apparently elephants started painting to make a living. What's next? Ant eaters doing glamor retouching?
I understand we are going through a recession and everybody's trying to make a living. But, we have to stop these elephants! Otherwise we will soon be payed with bananas. I propose we let these beast eat their own dog food, er.. I mean elephant food. Let them realize what they are doing to us designers. Let us all start carrying giant tree logs all day and let's see what they have to say about us taking their job! Who's with me!?

Right or Left Brained?
Submitted by elbandido on Thu, 2007-11-08 20:15.Hello all,
I found this interesting exercise that is supposed to tell you if you are right or left brained:
THE Right Brain vs Left Brain test ... do you see the dancer turning clockwise or anti-clockwise?

If clockwise, then you use more of the right side of the brain and vice versa.
Most of us would see the dancer turning counter-clockwise though you can try to focus and change the direction; see if you can do it.
(to read what the right and left brain do and to see the original article click here)

Mailplane invites

I have 5 invites to Mailplane, the MacOS X desktop gmail app. Let me know in comments if you need one. No need to give an email address, I can take it from your profile.
I tried it for about 10 minutes and I can't say I'm awed. It's a good idea and should be supported for further development for sure. We need to merge more online and desktop applications for the ultimate user experience.

Office Ultimate for under $60!!!
Submitted by elbandido on Sat, 2007-09-29 04:16.I know this is a Mac focused site, but I couldn't pass up the chance to share this with everyone. It seems Microsoft is offering their top of the line collection -Office Ultimate- for the insanely cheap price of $59.95! Yes, $59.95!!!
The only catches (besides the fact it's only for Windows) are that you need to be a student and have an email address from your school ending in .edu.

If you're a true designer you will feel right at home in this game. It's a classic 2D spaceship game with stunning art direction that depicts doodles on a sketchbook. Great way to spend those 10 minute compulsory breaks that you must take to every hour or so to stay fresh in mind and spirit. The game even features multiplayer over the internet. Let's see if we can find each other on the net.
Apple's answer to MS Surface
Submitted by Ivan on Wed, 2007-05-30 06:35.By now everybody must have seen the brand new product from Microsoft — Surface. The promo site showcases this new touchscreen product as a brand new and innovative user interface.
As you can expect from a Mac fanboy — I can't help but see Surface as a giant iPhone or a refined version of the touchscreen kiosks you can find at Airports and McD restaurants. 5 years ago this interface was amazing when showcased by Jeff Han, who is rumored to be working with/for Apple in some way.
Surface still looks like a great product if it works as advertised. It's been promised to be released in the Winter of 2007, so the MS team still has a few month to refine the details and make it work as it is shown on the videos.
Google Web History

Google announced a new feature called Web History, which is basically a personalized search that allows you to search within the pages you visited in the past. Web History logs your searches by the different search tools and the pages you visited. The cool thing about it is that it's not restricted to one computer. It logs all your activity anywhere you are logged in to your Google account.
It's extremely scary and totally cool at the very same time. I'm sure many will get a automatic nervous jerking reaction hearing this. Good thing you can delete the whole service at any time by visiting your Google account.
One interesting thing is that you can see stats about the number of searches you do by different scales of time.
