Jerry Manock’s Burlington office is crammed with industrial-design jobs that never saw the light of day: a hockey skate with an adjustable blade; a “Cubic” furniture building block that IKEA almost bought; and a model for the “rumbler,” a bathroom-scale-like device designed to vibrate at a frequency to maintain elder bone density.

Any number of factors — timing, money, patent problems — can kill a great invention.

But Manock got at least one product right. In 1977, when he was 33 and Apple had just five employees, Steve Jobs hired him as a consultant to design the Apple II, one of the first personal computers in history to be successfully mass produced and marketed. Manock gets credit for almost everything but the circuit board and the logic (which was engineered by Jobs’ partner and Apple cofounder Steve Wozniak): the machine’s “thermal management, the structure, the outside aesthetics, the color — beige, Pantone 453, the color of the deep-space universe,” Manock says, rattling off his contributions to the once-cutting-edge Apple II, which now looks like a yellowing typewriter on a shelf in his office.

Beside it sits the smaller, self-contained, revolutionary Macintosh. I've been asked to design a logo,make a simple sketch and design a few signs(5 pictograms) for a small new business's website. I am still studying graphic design (this is my 4th year) and this will be my first paid job! I was wondering if anyone could tell me what would be appropriate prices especially for the logo in dollars or euros as i have no clue and i've been told a number of completely different ranges!

I have been working as a comic book colorist for US publishers for the past 3 years and have self-taught Photoshop to myself over the past years.
Usually when i work on a comic book and check my blacks with a color picker it comes to:- 75% Cyan, 68% Magenta, 67% Yellow, and 90% Black

, but recently one of my publishers asked me to Ensure the blacks are:- 60% Cyan, 40% Magenta, 40% Yellow, and 100% Black.
I have tried a lot of different setting in the color setting options in Photoshop, but have not managed to get the same percentages as specified by my publisher.
I would be really be great full if someone could help me out and tell me how can i manage to do this without affecting the color quality of rest of the page, as i would not want the print quality to be affected.

Just wondering if anyone has any tips as far as getting a client to articulate what they want for a start up logo. I feel like so much time is wasted guessing what they want for them to completely change their mind. I understand where they're coming from, but I feel like there has to be a good way to get them thinking in the direction they want so they can convey it to me.

So I'm trying to get buttons printed and the company needs pantone colors, when I try to look to the exact pantone in illustrator there is multiple colorbooks, i asked the co. what colorbook they needed and they responded with we just need the pms color. is there a "generic" pantone book i should be looking in or when someone asks for pantone colors should they know which colorbook. Im new at this whole process, so I feel like im missing something...probably a simple answer but im confused right now.
