Temple Tourism Campaign
Hey all. This is a branding project for the City if Temple Promotion and Tourism division. They asked us to come up with some ideas for a logo, a tagline, and a marketing position. The city is primarily known as a hub for major commercial and pedestrian railways through Texas. It has a strong historic reputation and also features some of the foremost medical facilities in Texas. It also boasts some popular Convention centers for business meetings and some creative academies specializing in music and performing arts.
So this project was dropped on me Friday (after nearly a week of effing around in meetings by suits). With a deadline of afternoon Monday they tell me that they want three logo concepts with supplementary images for presentation to the client.
Unfortunately i had no say in the tagline and positioning statements. I was just asked to illustrate their ideas. But the last 2 images were my own personal concepts, which i think are more original. Let me know what you think!

Choo Choose
Of the logos, I think you really nailed it with the center one--you'll just need to toy more with the font select.
Of the positioning pieces, I'm not minding the old west backer in which you tastefully touched upon the area's other attractions. However, if this is for the Tourism division, I don't think visitors will really care about the medical angle...unless they get hit by a train. The arts version needs to be worked up some more--ie. twist the notes and have them piping like whistles and have the musical staff looking more like a piece of railway track.
Overall, you did great in the time you were allotted.
ttfn!

I think the crucial thing
I think the crucial thing here is to differentiate the name of the city Temple and a church temple. Right now this looks like a generic church logo. Is the phrase "City of" commonly used with the word Temple? Might make it clearer.
Your ideas are okay, but I think as you shrink #2 down, especially, the text is going to get lost because of it's mainly horizontal orientation.
Overall nice seeing as though they are quick sketches.

Powerpoint is not a design application
First One
Definitely the top one.Except I would move the promotion and tourism under the "TEM" as in the second one. I think the whole point of this project is to stay away from obvious or any sort of religious angle. Maybe also a point instead of a square....just a thought.
Thanks for your comments. I
Thanks for your comments. I will take them into consideration for the next round of revisions. So i have received feedback from the client today and they seem to really like the concepts but, ironically, they want to focus more on the medical features (training, hospitality, technology, etc) the city has to offer. They also want to highlight the "calm, relaxing Texas experience" theme. How this is going to draw TOURISM i dont know, but im thinking something along the lines of "extending the longevity/quality of life" to parallel both the medical and recreational aspects. Obviously they can't convey every facet of their identity into a single brand, any thoughts? Unfortunately, getting information and direction from the customer service ppl here is like pulling teeth!
look at bethlehem, pa
they stuck a LOT of info into their logo.
might be what the suits are looking for.
or maybe they just want one logo that can be modified for different audiences, b/c you are right, when i think "tourism" i don't think "medical" at least not in TX.
Way too complicated. Choose
Way too complicated. Choose one typical element, or at least simplify it as much as possible. Use one color only perhaps.
this image is not a logo. I
this image is not a logo. I have been asked to create both a branding image and a logo for the City of Temple Tourism dept. based on a few taglines and a marketing position statement. Right now they are still unsure about what they want in their identity....but they seem determined to exploit the medical features the city has to offer....
