The art of creating a simple yet strong Logo

Designing a logo is one of the most challenging assignments in creating a brand identity. From the initial sketches to the final MontRED logo, it has been quite an exciting journey.

The article contains some great info, worth taking the time out and have a read :)

While I hate to say 'this looks like that...', Paul Rand did come to a very similar conclusion for the Morningstar brand years ago. In fact, it's one of the logos whose conception is documented in his book 'Design Form & Chaos'.

While the 'O' in Morningstar maintains it's legibility as an 'O' and as the sun (morning star) the 'O' in Montred fails to read as a letterform, and fails to read as a ring.

I'd have to say there is still exploration to be done.

Why put a finished logo up for critique on your company website? You are asking for disaster. Even a mediocre logo can command respect if product and service is of quality. However, first you have to BELIEVE that your logo is right for you. Doubt it, and instilling doubt in your whole brand. Not every action requires an interactive poll or blog.

Although it's a *little* more justified in this case—they sell jewelry, which often involves circular forms. Still, though, eeeeeh. I do like the colors and typeface a lot though!! AvantGarde is a good choice for the company.

Thanks for the link Ben.

I've been in "Theme-Park Logo Hell" for the last few days. They wanted a logo with big, fat extruded letters with all this stuff coming out from behind and around the letters. Water park splashes, roller coasters, a chef cooking something, people fishing, etc.

No. That's not a logo you're wanting... That's an illustration.

I second Shawn Allan's thoughts on this. A logo should communicate directly and immediately and not require a background to be understood.

Anyway, we learn from examples, and the idea itself of publishing the process behind their new corporate identiry was a bad one :)

Thanks. Good read. I kinda like the logo, but I fully agree with ShawnAllan.

Am I the only one that thinks that this logo does not work well?

Maybe it's just the difference in culture, but after testing this logo in my friends and family, nobody thought that this was a nice logo for a jewellery-related company.

Dunno. It just doesn't work for me.

Read much Sugar?

You are just one in a long line of people who do not think this logo works well.
