The Lab

No image yet.... but I need some feedback on a potential business name. My hubby and I are getting ready to take my ever-growing freelance business and create a professional studio identity.
He is an engineer and we are hoping to eventually get into wayfinding, signage and environmental design. However, right now our bread and butter are print and web projects for small businesses, artists and musicians in Seattle.
We think we have settled on "The Lab."
Our inspiration:
When we mesh my artistic background and his penchant for science, we come up with unique powerful solutions.
First impressions?
Honestly, my first
Honestly, my first impression was that "The Lab" has nothing at all to do with your business goals. It says science to me, or maybe scientific think-tank. If you asdded "creative" to it, I might think eugenics (euuww).
How about "Creative Spaceways"?

It's being done a lot right now...
Especially in design, marketing, and advertising.
PopLabs, Orange Lab, the list goes on.
If you're marketing yourself as a creative professional you should definitely try to come up with a name for your entity that stands out and showcases that aspect of your personality.
I'm at a similar impasse myself with a name I really like (and have purchased) but don't think really suits my needs.
Shop around for inspiration. I like looking through http://www.thedesignedtree.com

I actually purchased
www.TheLabCreative.com just in case. We are planning on adding something more descriptive to the name. I searched around for different uses of "The Lab" online and found a few. I was mainly concerned with similar names in my region. I didn't find any around here, so I thought it would be OK. I understand what Rick means when he says that is being done a lot right now. Oddly enough, my hubby, who knows nothing of theses trends, is the one who came up with it. The problem is, the name does describe our work together. I am always fighting with myself to avoid any and everything "trendy." It is hard sometimes.

studio shanda
As an aside...
Why not keep what you currently have with studioshanda?
It's clean, simple, and highlights your work/ability very well.

Thanks.
We just felt that we need to take the next step and create a studio name that doesn't sound like it is one person working out of their home. We want to grow, and soon, so Studio Shanda just doesn't seem like it can satisfy our goals. Studio Shanda is what I have used for all of my freelance through collage, and we felt it was time to move on to something more professional and "full service." Perhaps I am wrong. My hubby is going to be a big part of this business as well, and we want to portray a "team" operation.
