2.0 Mega Pixels???
It does everything apart from take hi res pictures it seems. 2.0 Mega Pixels seems a little mean in this day and age.
true
On the other hand with such small optics bigger megapixel size doesn't help much. For reference the images are good enough and for real photography you would take your real camera anyway.
Agreed!
Camera phones are a cute novelty... but I don't want to pay more money for more pixels... I have a digital camera for real photography.

I see it the same way
Very often I don't have my digi cam with me and make photos with my mobile. No video conference option and 2 mega pixels are poor. 3.2 or 5 and a good lense would make a difference for shure. At least to me. All photos shown on the keynotes iPhones where definitely not taken with an iPhone.
hardware sounds ok
hardware enhancements sound good... i want to know what the new software is like.. All the complaints i have about my iphone are complaints about software..
- i want mail and sms indicators on the locked screen.
- Note syncing with my laptop.
- etc
Anyone else?

only thing i would wish for
only thing i would wish for is a contract for less than $60/mo. that's what kept me from the iphone and pushed me into an ipod touch to supplement my regular cell phone. i have a very good plan at $25/mo and i couldn't justify the difference btwn the touch and the iphone at $420 extra per year.
i know i'd generally get more for that $35/mo, but $420 a year is a ton of cash for one less thing in my pocket and not needing wifi to surf with the touch.
You're screwed...
AT&T has UPPED THE PRICE TO $70 PER MONTH!
That's right, the cheapest data plan for 3G is now $30 per month, voice $39. Add in the extra taxes and bullshit fees, and you're probably looking at close to $85 to $90 per month.

yup, heard that later last
yup, heard that later last night.
and you know what that means, essentially. it means that while people are getting their iphones for less up front, they're actually paying more over the life of a 2 yr contract. so ATT is subsidizing the phone with more of your money anyway and making out even better.
me too!
I was all ready to get the iphone until they said $60 a month. We'll see what happens with the new release. I too have a cell contract from years ago where I pay as cheap as $29 per month.
iPhone monthly prices
just found this on yahoo. Looks like the minimum monthly price will be $70. Guess I'm not getting this version either.

I guess it's a difference of
I guess it's a difference of the market but I pay about $90 (£45) per month for my mobile tariff already and the iPhone contract in the UK doubles my minutes for the same price.
Can they just do away with
Can they just do away with AT&T already? Many other countries have non exclusive agreements with different service providers. AT&T is a sinking ship.

I agree....
but from what I've been reading, AT&T was the only company that would put up with the kind of control Apple wanted to have over the phone and its service.
They need to let up a little and open the phone to other carriers. I have friends who dumped AT&T because of the awful reception/service. All the bells and whistles are useless if I can't get a signal!
I'm loving the fact the iPhone is FREE on contract in the UK
I'll be switching to O2 on July 11th. ;o)
Uhm OK...
A camera at more than 2 MP is a must if you ask me. I mean this phone tries to rule everything else anyways. At least ad a friggin flash.
BTW, not to be a party-pooper, but all the new stuff is basically already available in the 2+ year old NOKIA N95 ?? minus the touchscreen of course, but I dont need that crap! (I dont own the N95 nor the iPhone, btw) In fact 2 year old N95 was quoted in the keynote for having only a few seconds slower webpage rendering on 3G (and that is with Nokia-browser not even opera), also one feature the iPhone is missing IIRC is A-GPS aka Navigation like in TomTom or Garmin.
The price-point now more accurately reflects the feature set of the phone. The 1st one was A RIPOFF OMG ROFL WTFBBQROFLCOPTERS!
*shrug*
*shrug*
2MP seems fine for me for what it is, a simple P&S built into your phone so you don't need to carry the basic one around. megapixels are one of the more overrated specs out there, anyway. people who don't do anything more than post photos online brag about 10mp cameras, which is ridiculous. my P&S is 5MP, but i don't turn it up over 3MP most of the time since it's almost always for snapshots (DSLR for real pictures).
maybe a flash wouldn't be horrible to add, but how much bigger would it be (honestly, i don't know how much room it would take up)?
i think a lot of people *prefer* the touchscreen, and even more importantly, the interface. while you poo-poo it, that's a major selling point for many. it's not all about raw features, it's about whether you like the way it works and whether it works best for you. obviously, it's not for everyone, but that doesn't make it bad, per se.
i'm not an apple fanboi. i like some of the things they've done and not so much on others. i think the iphone is close, beyond the ATT contract price. i like the interface (i own a touch). i just can't justify the monthly cost on it.
fair
I value your points, however the camera module on my N82 (5mp, Carl Zeiss Lens, AF, Xenon Flash, Focus LED) takes up little room, most of the space it takes up is the lens-cover it has built in.
I think when giving people the ultimate-handheld (what product has not been introduced as ultimate by apple?) the phone shoulhave a camera that rivals a consumer digi-cam. period.
They should have added A-GPS (with navigation, as most high-end smartphones have this nowadays) and how about a expansion slot for SD?
We will see if the 3rd party apps can redeem this device, at least in my eyes.
I see your point, but the N95 is a horrid piece of kit.
I really dislike it.
It's a brick, it's massive, it's unreliable and EVERY friend of mine who owns one has said they'll be dumping the N95 on July 11th.
to answer the question...
1) MMS? why can't i send a picture to someone else without having to use email? what if their phone doesn't do email.
2) a slot for a memory card? why can't i just put info on a memory card and take that out to put in another computer. not every computer i use has itunes to sync an iphone for data transfers
3) battery access. why should i have to send in my phone if my battery dies. that's an old mentality that was thrown out years ago!

To address your points. ;o)
1) I've not sent an MMS in about 2 years.
I just don't need them and more often than not the people I'm sending them to don't have MMS set up on their phone so it's a waste of money as they don't receive it.
Everyone I know has email.
2) The memory card on my phone goes mostly unused. I got a 2GB microSD card as soon as I got my Nokia e65 and within a few months had swapped it out for a 512Mb one and put the 2GB one in my camera.
I never sync data from other machines to my phone apart from by Bluetooth and ALL of what I do in terms of sync will be replaced by MobileMe.
3) I've never ever changed or replaced a battery in a mobile phone in 10 years of owning one. By the time the battery is dying I'll have a new phone. I doubt I'll ever have to replace an iPhone battery either to be honest, O2 are offering free upgrades to the iPhone 3G for all current iPhone customers and I'd expect the same to happen for the next version.
One good thing about the UK telcomms market.
forgot to mention
the iphone's been way overhyped since day one anyways..
i'll stick to what i have before shelling out that much money, not to mention the insane service fees ATT charges just to use it, and lastly, 3G is nice and all, if it's in your area.. if not, the phone is no faster.
Notice they didn't once mention the lack of 3G areas.

why are you guys talking about this
I want to say we talk about something else like about how good and bad life is sometimes
Still not my cup of tea. I
Still not my cup of tea. I love Apple products, but I still have yet to justify how I'd use that phone.
But then I've always been "behind the times" when it comes to cell phone technologies - I didn't even buy the Moto Razr until I could get it for cheap with my existing phone plan. That's basically what I'm waiting for with the iPhone- waiting until they keep upgrading, upgrading, upgrading until I can get a cheaper model... but at the same time, I'm not going to change my phone carrier, either.
I had AT&T at one time and they were regular jerks to work with - I actually got in on a class action settlement with them for some underhanded charges they pulled when I closed my account with them about four years ago.
Sonrisa - start a new topic if you wanna talk about the pros and cons of life. ;)
