The "Official" Photoshop CS3 Beta thread
Apfhex (325 points) | Fri, 2006-12-15 01:43I'm sure you've all heard by now that Adobe will release the PS CS3 beta tomorrow morning. I'm sure excited. The NAPP has a preview of the new version here: http://www.photoshopuser.com/cs3/sk_features.html
I'll be posting back after I've been able to download and use it for a while.
Though I wish they'd release an Illustrator CS3 beta, it's by far the most buggy of the Creative Suit on Intel Macs.
I think InDesign is far worse than Illustrator - at least for me. It sounds like we both would rather have a beta of one of the other apps in the bundle, rather than Photoshop, which runs suprisingly well on an Intel machine.

I can't wait to see how the Macromedia apps are bundled with it... I think they can expect heavy traffic on that download site...
Ooops looks like I jumped right in without checking the forum and managed to Clash with Ivan's post to boot.

I haven't used it much, or explored any new features, but I did do some speed tests on my Mac Pro and CS3 is a little over twice as fast as CS2. Pretty good so far! The new pallet system is interesting and I'll have to use it for a bit to see if I like it any better.
Well, phooey! I downloaded the beta yesterday. It wouldn't take my CS serial Number, so I opted for the free 30-day trial.
Which Photoshop just now informed me has experied.
WTF???
Anyone else having trouble like this, or is it me?
BTW, I loved some of the new features, hated others. But I only had a few hours to play with them last night. I'm glad I was able to squeeze *that* much in, given how swiftly 30 days go by in Abobeland.

As a designer with an Intel MacBook I was getting to the end of my tether with CS2 being an utter dog running in Rosetta.
My MacBook is a littly tempremental anyway and if it gets to hot it occasionally shuts down, Rosetta makes the CPU run at about 89°C with the fan at full speed meaning I either saved every 5 minutes or lost my work.
CS3 not only is incredibly light and less resource hungry but it's more than twice as fast as CS and CS2. I've been using it exclusively now since about 3 days after it came out and I'm loving it.
The minor brush size bug isn't too much of an issue for me and in the odd occasion it is I can revert back to CS2 for a few minutes.
Overall fantastic.
And unlike most I actually like the new logo's.
