The Ultimate Blogger

Two of my friends and I have made this really weird project/challenge/reality show. "Season 1" was insane. It ended up blowing our minds and taking up literally all of our time. It's the biggest project any of us have ever worked on (and we're not even getting paid). Now we're doing it again! The contest is totally open to ANYONE that wants to apply. You don't need a blog! All you need is heart and access to a computer.

I really want to see the creativebits community represented in this competition! Last year we didn't have a designer contestant! I'd also like to hear your feedback on the site and movie design; I'm doing all of it on my own.

We're accepting applications for one more week:
You should totally apply!

Here's our more "formal" description:
---------------------------------------------------
Ultimate Blogger is a fast paced 4-week competition between 12 internet pundits from around the world, all locking horns and braving carpal tunnel syndrome to win a $1,000 dollar prize package and the title of the internet's best blogger.

Each week, the game's hosts, Steve Schroeder and Mike Merrill, will issue challenges to the bloggers in the form of compelling video segments, which must be interpret and fulfilled as triumphantly as possible, then posted into Ultimate Blogger's central battle arena -- "The Den."

The contestant with the best blog entry each week will be granted immunity and a safe passage to the next round. The remaining bloggers, however, will have to vote one unlucky contestant out of the game, and off the Internet -- forever

Ultimate Blogger 2

Spam comes in all shapes and sizes, but in the end is still spam.

How is this spam? This is a project that me and two of my friends are working on for NO compensation!? It's spam because we have put together a prize package out of our own pockets? I've worked so hard on this and for you to call it spam really hurts my feelings.

Our mission is to get people excited about making more creative and compelling content; to make the internet better, you know? The prize package is designed to give people some of the tools to do that.

Man, did you even check out the site? I spent a lot of time making it.

OK. This is my PERSONAL view and I hope others have different views.
Personally - "The Ultimate Blogger 2 promised new twists and surprises, and we're giving you the first one before the game even starts!" - straight away this rang spam bells to me. Spam as in, don't even bother as it's a waste of time.
Your first posting , to me, looked like marketing speak which my brain has been fine tuned to ignore.

I did check the site as I wasn't sure what you were selling/ promoting.
After visiting the site, I still don't really understand anything. Maybe this is just my brain still on reject mode or maybe it's because these things need refining and made more dominant. I don't know.
As a blog-centric site, I do think it looks great.
My only criticism is that nothing to do with the competition is clear enough.
I kind of get that there is a competition but it is not clear what it is, what I get, how to enter etc.

Good luck with it but I think I'll pass, thanks.

I signed up and have not gotten a response or anything. It's not spam, but the second post is borderline — you're trying to sell something. I don't think I have this straight — you're selling rights to be in the contest? Then how is it a contest?

Flub-Dub's picture

looks like borderline spam to me too.
lemme guess. you dont make any money out of more ppl visiting your website riiight?
and you dont sell our e-mails riiiight?
and you didnt promote anyone in this post riiiight?
and you didnt just make 203.50$ on e-bay... the prize listing stating that only 250$ are hard cash money riiiight?
i bet you're just giving away stuff you receive from deals, and not at all out of your own pocket.... riiiight?

air support please

Digilee,

Thanks for you constructive criticism. I'm trying hard to make the game really easy to understand and follow for first time visitors. It's hard! I'm hoping that people click on the giant WHAT IS THIS button in the upper-left. That explains everything.

Mackie,

You did get a response, here: http://www.urbanhonking.com/ultimateblogger2/thank_you.html

We are only three people and didn't see the need/have the time to personally write every applicant and explain why we didn't select them as contestants.

HERE'S THE BREAKDOWN AND WHY MY FEELINGS ARE HURT:

This whole thing is based on reality television and that whole ridiculous scene. It's SATIRE. These posts have been written in crazy action language to try and create hype and comedy! I'll say it again, our whole deal as people and as creators of this game is this: We're trying to create more compelling and interesting web content! We've all read totally boring blogs before! My older brother has one! We're to get people excited on making NEW stuff rather than posting Google Video links and Grammy nominee lists, etc.

To answer your questions regarding money:

I have no idea how to "sell emails" to anyone and I never would. I am not a company! I am making this competition because I love making weird projects! Last year during season one this literally became a full time job and we didn't make a single cent. We paid for every prize out of our own pockets (minus Transmit, which was donated by our friends at Panic). Luckily one of the three of us has a full time job and doesn't care about wasting money on weird projects like this.

I didn't promote anyone in this post? What are you talking about? AC Dickson? I linked to an eBay performance artist's blog that I host in my online community.

The $203 we made on eBay goes right back into the game as an additional cash prize that will be awarded separately from the main prize package.

How much are we making on visits? NOTHING. We will LOSE money if a lot of people visit the site (bandwidth overages).

Here's how our Google AdSense is working out as of today:

Anyway, I just expected a different response from CB homies.
