The site will be dangerously radioactive for 250,000 years, so the sign needs to be effective and readable for all of that time, no matter what happens to society and intelligent life on this planet.

Nothing like a big creative challenge! Sit someone in a bunker near the site – protected of course – and get them to press a button every 108 minutes which keeps the signage relevant and up-to-date with current intelligence and cultures. The person in the bunker would have to be changed every now and again of course due to life span issues...
