Tiger annoyance
Ivan | Sat, 2005-05-07 12:24I was hoping Apple would fix the long standing issue of screen refresh when resizing windows. Does it work smooth for you? I don't get it. The processing power and underlying technologies must be there. Just look at expose or minimizing with genie effect.

I dont think Im getting the problem that you're getting im afraid.. genie effect/expose are smooth, dashboard takes a fraction of a section after it has brought up the darkscreen with the widgets, it takes a fraction of a second for the widgets to start (like the clock hands are missing for example) .... but everythings smooth here mate.

on a regular basis is the new QT 7 player not refreshing properly (and I've only seen that in panther so far)
Apparently I am not the only one that has this problem as seen on the apple discussion board. Apparently the 10.4.1 update coming in a week or so will correct my problem as well as some other bugs.

I'm sorry. I didn't express myself correctly. I meant to say, that everything works fine like genie effect, but one thing which is resizing windows by grabbing the bottom right corner. Do you have it working smooth?
its not that bad, but its not as smooth as the quicktime 7 resizing or genie / expose etc. it sort of flickers ....
so yea i guess i am getting the same prob as you Ivan.... but it only happens on windows with a lot of content, like safari for instance. Finder windows and most apps are ok and they're smooth

It still makes me crazy that Apple hasn't implemented the ability to resize windows from any corner. If you've worked on a system that allows this you'll know what I mean.
Anyone else finding problems with palettes in Studio MX 2004 or Adobe CS Studio?
It doesnt happen at a regular pace, you could be using the program (dreamweaver or photoshop in my case) and then suddenly you cant click or drag the palletes. You then have to reset your pallete locations to make it work again which isnt too bad. Unless you're using illustrator or dreamweaver where you cant (from what I know of) have custom saved palette locations, and you have to muck about trying to get the palletes working again. Or even worse having to restart the application, which i know doesnt sound much but its a real pain in the a$$

The palette problem has been around since Jaguar, though I haven't had any issues since Jaguar with apps like Illustrator saving their palette locations. It's a problem with the app itself. Adobe even released a bug fix update for Illustrator to solve the problem, as well as one for InDesign.
All Adobe apps automatically save palette locations, so if your copy is not, I suggest you delete the prefs of the app, or even reinstall the app.

the problem that has started happening is that some palletes just seem to lock me out of clicking on them. I could be using them for ages and then all of a sudden its like someone deleted the pallete but left an image of the palette in its place, I see the palette but i cant click it.
Very strange and quite annoying, and didnt happen in panther.

Probably my biggest peeve with Tiger is what it has done to my application extensions. Whereas before applications had no ".app" extension, every application in my applications folder now has ".app" annoyingly tacked onto the end of it. I hate that, as it is very Windows-esque. Sounds silly, but when I first switched to Mac, one of the neatest things was not having an extension on the end of applications... that was magic to me.
Another issue I've been having is the dock. Like a lot of OS X users, I have my dock set to auto-hide. It doesn't always auto-hide anymore. Sometimes it will pause/freeze, causing me to have to my move cursor back over it to make it hide itself.
I've really been waiting for the 10.4.1 update in the hopes it remedies some of my small issues!

"Of interest to some users, sources said Mac OS X 10.4.1 will also correct DHCP issues experienced by some Tiger users who own certain D-Link wireless routers."
SWEET!

It's nice to see Mac users suffer! 'Tis only fair. Hehe.
Vindictive? :)
Is my opinion.. We don't want computer war threads to flame up..
CB is a community or blog for Creative Mac users..
We love mac.. But of course we are human as well and don't like some parts.
I was only teasing, sorry!
I don't think he was "flaming" - it was a harmless poke in the stomach. And you gotta admit, we Mac users have had it so good for so long that we probably deserve it once in a while, just to keep us honest! ;-)

I guess we found Tigerstorm's soft spot. ;)
Nope.. I've got things I don't like about Mac OS X as well..
But I've got experience about computer flaming threads mac vs pc on other boards and they always end badly.. So it's better to say polite that it isn't a very smart thing to say when you are on a mac site.. Just my 2 cents..
This isn't a Mac site, it's a "Creative" site – though I'll grant you it's very much directed at Mac users, simply because the creative community tend to use Macs.

This site beging a Creative Mac website..
I have to admit, I know jackshit about Windows. :(
ignorance is bliss, and knowing nothing about must be great. Just think of all the worst things (if you can) about the mac OS and then think that those are the best bits about windows :D .. And then think about how your hardware will start to screw up over time because the os screws them up, and then think about your wallet being empty..... not so hard for some of us lol.
ivan, you're a lucky person lol
