Time to dump IE

We know that already, but this looks like a harsh critic, especially coming from the RedmondMag:

Internet Explorer is the Swiss Cheese of software—it's full of holes. Holes in software are never good, but when the browser is so integrated with the OS as to be as one—you've got problems. Add to that the sheer ubiquity of the Microsoft browser, and it's no wonder IE has become the hackers' No. 1 playground.

Not too mention the most frustrating thing about IE (at least for any web designers): it's not fully standards compliant! This is so frustrating when designing a website, I can't even begin to describe.

I love me some Firefox and Camino. That's good stuff right there.

i know, if you look at a CSS tutorial for example. it's like 5 lines of code to get something done and there is a 25 line IE hack to have a workaround to make it IE compatible. just imagine all that waste of bandwidth because of longer codes. we were just chatting about it with Balazs the other day. it doesn't only mean that you will have a slower internet and longer downloading pages. on a global scale of millions of downloads a day, it also means a lot of waste of electricity, which means pollution, which means more sick people and less trees. basically MS with the non standard compliant IE is killing people and killing forests.

Is this the beginning of the end for IE?

I surely hope so! I'm so sick of IE bugs.

Firefox, Safari gain as IE falls from grace

By Macworld staff

Microsoft's dominance of the Web is declining month-by-month, with Internet Explorer's market share falling to under 88.9 per cent.

Figures from OneStat.com show Microsoft's browser to have fallen five per cent since May, while the popular Firefox browser has grabbed 4.58 per cent. The battle is the Redmond software giant's to lose: Internet Explorer 6.0 still holds 81 per cent of the browser market.

OneStat's statistics are based on Web activity in 100 countries. In May, figures showed Internet Explorer with 4 per cent and Mozilla with just 2.5 per cent share.

Over five million surfers so far have downloaded the free Firefox browser, which is available for multiple platforms.

Use of Apple's homegrown Safari browser has also seen an increase, climbing to 0.91 per cent from 0.71 per cent in May.
