To go big or dual? (one 30in. or two 23in. monitor)
ludvik (29 pencils) | Wed, 2006-01-11 18:07I have one of those questions that truly depends on the type of work one is in. However, I am lucky to decide what my next desktop will hold, one 30in. Monitor or two 23in. I have seen the 30in. monitors, and I just love them, however two 23 will give me more real state, plus I could use FCP (Final Cut Pro) tools in one monitor and have a full monitor for full HD previewing.
My work?
-50% of web design, graphic design and photography
-25% of motion animation and flash, and
-25% of digital video.
What do you recommend.
Also, I could buy a Dual Core 2.3 Mac with 8GB RAM 500GB Disk or a Quad Core with 4GB RAM 250GB Disk
Like I said, I am lucky and I need help deciding.

I'd go with the dual screens. You just can't go wrong with a dual head set-up. Watch a dvd in one screen, code in the other. That's the life my friend. :)
as for dual core 2.3 or quad core... hmm... that's just friggin tough. Do you have a coin you can flip?

I don't mean to be negative, but do you REALLY need a quad for web design? I think not. If I were you I'd go with a dual. As for the monitor...tough one. I suggest the 30".
Dual, as I do!
Quad...overkill.
Thank you very much for your responses. They have helped me greatly in making a decision, I see that most decide for dual monitors. Currently I use a 23" and I guess It is okay. I love the idea of 30" but in reality, now I could partition my toolset and have one monitor for previewing only, which would be great.
For workstations, I guess I use mostly Photoshop and Illustrator, and a few times FCP and Motion, so I agree with you guys, dual 2.3 it is. I am satisfied with what I have currently, a dual liquid cool 2.5 G5. So, I think the dual core 2.3 is a little better and should work great.
Thank you very much for your help,

why not shed an extra 1000$(CAN) to get the big machine! Up comming versions of software and OS will be demanding more ressources from the computer. With a Quad, you will never have to say " I should of paid that xtra 1000$".
Anyways, my two cents....
P.S. Why don't you wait for an Intel based PowerMac? They should be a bit more powerfull (if your'e looking for power)
dude just get two 30 inchers, its just a drop in the bucket

I'd definitely suggest going with dual monitors. It's a lot more versatile. At home I used two 21 inch monitors and loved it. At school I had a 24 inch Apple Cinema display to look at. It sure was pretty but I still preferred the dual monitor setup I had at home
