Noteslate ultra-low-cost tablet

Noteslate is going to be essentially a digital notepad. The only function of this device is to be able to take notes with a pen. No books, no apps, no internet, nothing you would expect from a tablet device. But, it only costs $99, it will last 180 hours on one charge and it will only weigh 280 g. It will feature a mini USB connection and SD card reader. Optionally it can have WiFi and solar charging back panel. The device and the ink will come in different color combinations.

As much as I like simple devices with a single purpose I don't see much use for this one. A simple notebook with a pencil beats this guy in every way possible. The only reason someone would find this useful if he has a frequent need to digitize handwritten notes or sketches. But the average designer uses his notepad for ideation and digitizing these scribbles is not really needed. What do you think, would this device fit your workflow nicely or is it just one more unnecessary gadget?

It's definitely a gadget that'll make people go "Oh lemme see that, that's cool".
I dunno, I find writing on paper much better, perhaps some people are more used to tablets?
To me it looks like a cool gadget, but with worse usability than normal paper.

I used to use my Newton to do my sketches for logos while being at the restaurant. I would fall for this gadget, because, yes, it is one. But then, I love gadgets as much as my wife loves shoes.
The main thing I want to see from this is the ability to save my pages and browse through them as I please. if I can save them to a PC afterwards then I'm golden, and I'd definitely be gettign one. Oh, and the pen has to feel right, not too heavy, not too light. That and the contact it makes on the surface.

I am not Steve Ballmer pretending not to be me!
brookstone has something like this now. and the tactile performance is really natural. the big problem is, the erase function erases the whole page.
if this thing has an erasing (or writing with background color) feature and can save a large number of pages. it would be pretty handy for the price. as for me note taking and sketching is all id use a ipad for and its 6x the price...
i always like to read some good and informative
