Pantone CAPSURE™

A new device from Pantone can give you very precise color measurements. You can capture color inspiration from any surface, material or fabric – even small, patterned, multi-colored textures and textiles – and match it quickly and accurately to a PANTONE Color. Created for professionals in fashion, home, interior, industrial and graphic design, as well as for contractors, paint retailers and do-it-yourselfers, CAPSURE is easy to use and portable, yet its advanced image capture technology sets a new standard for accuracy and versatility in a portable device.
In the USA and Canada you can buy Pantone CAPSURE™ online.
You could of course use one of the iPhone apps for similar less precise measurements, like Think Ink.

Pretty cool. I wonder what colour it takes when you hold it on top of something with like a texture. The average? And is it light/shadow sensitive?

This looks like an updated version of the Pantone Color Cue. I purchased the Color Cue a little over a year and have been generally pleased with the results. It's definitely not 100% accurate, and can many times misread a chip straight from the Pantone swatch book. But it includes conversions for all colors and is helpful for calibrating printers.
I'd be curious to hear from anyone who owns the Capsure and whether or not they find it to be a reliable tool.
Misreads the chips? :) Is it possible the chips are old?
Would you believe they both arrived in the same package? Brand new.
I personally use the ZuneColorMeter!
You people should try it
