Text-Link-Ads tips
I noticed in the referrals that many readers signed up for Text-Link-Ads through my last article introducing Text-Link-Ads. I thought I should revisit the subject as I learned a few tricks that can maximize your revenue.
Before anything else, let me report my experiences as promised earlier. The system works great for me. I sold all spaces on both of my sites. I get payed on time through paypal both for the links sold and referrals. I tried payment through cheques and it worked fine too, although took much longer than paypal.
First tip, don't get discouraged in the first few days that the code you installed produces initially just a test message and later literally nothing. This is normal behavior. A person I know lost 350USD because he disabled the code prematurely.
Second, you don't have to accept the price that is set for your site by default. You can use the contact form to ask publisher support for price changes.
If you can't sell any links on your site for couple of weeks ask the publisher support to lower the price per link. A friend of mine could not sell the link spaces on his site for 2 month at first. When I suggested him to lower the price per link a bit, he immediately started selling. Lower than default price makes the price stick out in the list of sites and makes it a good deal for advertisers.
You can sell links on any site, even if you only have a few visitors. As an experiment I added my daughters site to the Text-Link-Ads system and I managed to sell 2 spaces for a very low price. This site has very little traffic but it is valuable for the advertiser because of the niche it represents. In comparison, I tried putting AdSense on the same site and it made nothing. So, it's not about the traffic, it's about the linkage.
Once you have sold all 10 spaces don't be shy to raise the price. The default price set for you can be too low. You can raise it by 10-20% and see if the advertisers stay. If you lose one or two, you are still making the same money, but you have the potential to sell 2 more spaces for extra revenue.
Finally, do update the site profile within the system. If your Alexa rank has increased make sure you update it as this is the most important thing that advertisers look at.

Trying TLA out
I signed up for TLA but it said I was denied because my site may not meet minimum traffic requirements. Did you have this same problem when you signed up your daughters site?
I sent an email asking them to reconsider.
I didn't have this problem.
I didn't have this problem. Although the first site I signed up was creativebits and later I just added on more sites to the same account. What is your url or your Alexa rating?
my site is...
www.razrtattoos.com
It has a Google Pagerank of 3 and it comes up first when you search for "RAZR tattoos."
Try to lower the price and
Try to lower the price and you will start selling. I think the main issue is that you have very few incoming links. http://www.google.com/search?q=link:razrtattoos.com
Still page rank 3 is valuable. Even page rank 2 is something that can be of value to SEO.
Response I got from TLA...
So after I sent the email, this is the response I got...
"Thank you for your email. It looks like your site does not have enough link
popularity. Link popularity is the measure of quantity and / or quality of
web pages linking back to your webpage. Please obtain some quality links
into your site and then re-submit your site again in three months."
Oh well! :)
Check it
Do you have any incoming links? search for: link:yoursite.com on google. Ask a few friends to link you with relevant keywords. Link your site from in signatures on forums and blogs like this one. Just a little work will pay off well on long term.
Thanks
Thanks for the feedback and ideas.
