Trademarks & Logos

One of my clients has asked me to produce a history timeline for their product area using photos to illustrate key points. Some of the points mention brands such as Mars chocolate bars and Starbucks, amongst others.

What is the legal position regarding showing either a photo of the product or the companies logo in a design like this?

Thanks snak. I use that site all the time, but I didn't know they had a list of guidelines. Unfortunately the guidelines for the logos I want to use are not listed.
