Two fonts I love
kenyabob (303 points) | Wed, 2006-04-05 07:25If I were limited to two, only two fonts that I could use for the rest of my life, well folks, I think I'd know what I'd choose.
Clearly, because I am not an idiot, most of the time, I'd select one serif and one sans serif.
For the sans serif, I'd opt for the always kind Avenir.
For the serif, I'd go for Scala, which I love so much it hurts me. Hot damn.
What about you guys, thoughts?

Adobe Garamond for sure. It is such a beautiful font. Probably Myriad as sans.
If I were stranded on a desert island, and only had two fonts... :)
Serif:
Sans:
Terrell Thornhill
e-zign Design Group
Nashville is a Slab font ;)
Helvetica Neue
Symphosia CE
Futura Condensed
Goudy Old Style
SlideawayMedia - web design for Cambridge, Kitchener, Waterloo, Guelph and surrounding areas.

Gill Light
Bodoni Book
I assume we're picking font families, right?
For my serif, you can't beat Adobe Garamond Pro. It's got a nice family of fonts and a plethora of ligatures and embellishments.
As for my sans-serif... that's a bit tougher. There's so many that I like that no single font stands out head and shoulders. If I absolutely must choose, though, I'd probably say Trade Gothic LT Std. I use this family a lot and it's quite versatile.
well, i think the Swift would be one of them (http://www.myfonts.com/fonts/paratype/swift/). The Scala family is also a good choice by the way :-)
For a sans-serif I think I would pick the Helvetica Neue.
Geesh, that's harder than it looks.... Can't we choose two typeDESIGNERS in stead of two fonts? hahaha :-)
Simple - frutiger and minion...
But then again Neue can be applied to anything, and garamond, maybe even Trajan, apart for the uppercase only.
Yeah Frutiger & Minion
Adobe Garamond Pro and Myriad Pro... can't beat 'em! Incidentally those are what Adobe uses on their box art, and what Apple uses too (they used to use Apple Garamond, now they use Adobe Myriad).
Interesting choices you have Kenyabob, I've never heard of either of those. Avenir reminds me of Avant Garde, which is a typeface I really like.
Brighton Light is one of my current serif faves and Lucida Grande for mockup UI work.
afterglow.ie - Icons, interfaces, illustration
Bodoni (all weights)
Helvetica Neue (the thinner the better!).
I'd take Gill as a runner up.

love the fonts listed above me thus far. I don't have a preference really to any 2 favorite. I think it depends on the medium too, that should have been a detail we could have considered too! -=]
if a search engine was on the island with us, id have to go with tahoma and treb, just so the fish could easily read our content ;)

I can't believe no one has mentioned Futura. That has got to be one of the greatest fonts.
For Serif, I would go with Garamond.
325studio
Triplex

it's got a nice range of serifed and non-serif fonts..
out of curiosity, what do people like for hand written fonts? (if you've ever needed one that is!) my choice goes to Digital Strip at www.blambot.com

Tough question... Im the salad font lady...hahah but well I´ll stick to the rules I will say Limerk family for the san serif and for the serif will be Hoboken family is fresh and light and can be very versatile...
But as a typeaddict I will say all type has it´s charm even the wiked...

If only two, and I'd also do the serif/sans serif thing, I'd be the Garamond girl with Frutiger in her pocket. I can make these two standby typeface families do anything but the laundry.

Anyone who has seen my website would realize that! lol

Sabon as my Serif.
And Helvetica as my sans. (I agree with the lighter the better on that)
But, i'm a cheater and i'd slip Baskerville and Futura in my pocket.
Just so we're clear, what the fuck are we gonna do with typefaces on an island?
Oh yes, and comic sans and papyrus would be banned on my island...

for a sans serif font: Avant Garde (I love this font)
and for a serif font: definitely Adobe Garamond

That's all you really need.... no but seriously, what is the client obsession with these fonts? I see it used daily and it absolutely kills me... long live comic sans!
LOL
Nahhh... my vote would be yet another pick for the solid combo of Adobe Garamound Pro and Myriad Pro...

Or worse—Sand. Ewwwww!
I recently designed a brochure for a client who used Papyrus in their logo. I begged her to let me redesign it. To no avail, unfortunately. OH well. I felt it ruined my brochure design. *Sigh*
