ugh. what is it with "uncompressed" TIFs?
gwells (1711 pencils) | Tue, 2010-06-01 16:26I keep running into people giving me uncompressed TIF files.
i know that JPG is lossy and throws away data, but standard TIF compression is lossless. and instead of a 100MB file, i could get a 35MB file, which is easier to deal with. Especially when there are 30 of these files.
*runs Dr Brown on the folder and compresses them all*
i only wish that had been done *before* i had to transfer all of these 100mb ish files.

There's an old wive's tale that uncompressed tif files can cause problems with some RIPs. It's basically an excuse used to confuse clients who ask too many questions when a production facility either runs their job wrong or can't run it at all. That's probably where the problem originated.
