All of a sudden I am unable to change the size of my text unless I grab the text box itself. The window in my control bar is ghosted and I have already restarted the computer twice and have no idea what in the world is going on. ANY FREAKIN IDEAS?!?!?!?!?!

That's often the preferences file getting corrupt.
(Windows) Start InDesign, and then press Shift+Ctrl+Alt. Click Yes when asked if you want to delete preference files.
(Mac OS) While pressing Shift+Option+Command+Control, start InDesign. Click Yes when asked if you want to delete preference files.
